I concur. I would only add that all is not lost. America and it's citizens, our notions of freedom, liberty and the common good, can be salvaged from the slow death that partizans have inflicted upon us.

The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator currently shows now Obama leading in states with 210 Electoral College votes while McCain leads in states with 165 votes. I would like to think that involvement in the dem party would make a difference, but I have been disappointed too many times till there is no issue left that exists that hasnt been sabotaged, compromised so what is served us is very unappealing and nothing compared to what was foought for. I used to think it was necessary to compromise to get elected. I no longer think that way, in fact it is quite the opposite: the only way to get elected is to not compromise one iota on prinicpals. I dont mean doctors shouldnt be paid based on the number of patients, I mean a profit system managed by corporations. Where corporate insurance excludes those most in need. It could be argued that doctors and certainly health personel are as much the victims of this system as we are. They are housed in corporate hospitals, they perscribe corporate drugs, they diagnose corporate made up diseases, they must attend to the rich first, the middles classes second and the poor last. They are overworked and understaffed...

And yes they are in debt up to their ears. They are not motivated by profit but how to live up to thier oath of serving patients. They see a high income and they see their oath to their patients, and most times they must choose between them. Management pressure to maximize corporate profits does not make them rich, so their motivation is not profit but to avoid the hassles and intimidation of corporations that dominate, completely dominate the health industry.

Technological innovation driven by profit is not the only answer and is heading for disaster. Innovation is better achieved by promoting altruistic professionals with less worries and more flexibility to practice and innovate their craft.

Pac why oh why do you defend the opposite system? A system that isnt achieving the goal of promoting a healthy society, one that can afford the service?

Doctors and innovators should be well rewarded for their efforts. Insurance companies should not be able to deny treatment of life-threatening disease because it will hurt their bottom line. But they do, and that's what has to change.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Barack Obama attracting 50% of the vote while John McCain earns 45%. Those figures are unchanged from yesterday and mark the fifteenth straight day that Obama’s support has ranged from 50% to 52% while McCain has been at 44% of 45% (see trends).

Obama is viewed favorably by 55%, McCain by 54% (see trends). Thirty-eight percent (38%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Obama while 30% have a Very Unfavorable view. For McCain, the numbers are 26% Very Favorable and 26% Very Unfavorable.


As economic issues dominate, 66% now believe the U.S. economy is in a recession, up eight points from a month ago. Just 8% rate the economy as good or excellent while 66% say it’s in poor shape. Six percent (6%) say economic conditions are getting better while 78% say they are getting worse. The Rasmussen Consumer Index shows both consumer and investor confidence has fallen to new all-time lows.

Among voters who consider economic issues to be the most important voting issue, Obama leads 65% to 31%. Among all other voters, McCain leads 60% to 36% (see other recent demographic highlights). It is hard to overstate the impact of the recent economic crisis on Election 2008. Prior to the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the recent Wall Street meltdown, McCain held a very modest lead over Obama nationwide.

Only 9% of voters now believe the United States is heading in the right direction while 88% say the nation has gotten off on the wrong track.


Currently, Obama has the edge in every state won by John Kerry four years ago. However, of the states won by George Bush, McCain is trailing in four and five others are considered a toss-up. As a result, Electoral College projections now show Obama leading 248-163. When “leaners” are included, Obama leads 300-174. A total of 270 Electoral Votes are needed to win the White House.
