computer help? Can't get videos.

Humbly appealing for any help for my niece who has a new laptop (Vista), and despite all that we try to do, can't get YouTube videos or CNN videos. Have downloaded Flash Player, and it shows as a program inside the computer but not on the All Programs list. Has RealPlayer. We are both old ladies, clueless, and frustrated ! Is there some simple thing that we are not seeing? Thank you so very much for anything that you may offer - we will try it.

for any video, the place where the video should be is just white....none of them are black or have a play arrow or anything.......

What browser are you running (Internet Explorer, Firefox) and with what operating system are you using (XP, Vista)? I don't know if I can help but maybe someone can... :)

She now has both IE,,,and Firefox,,,doesn't work on either. per the forum, above, says to download the java debugger (whatever that is....)

I get the same thing on google videos for a mac. I looked into it and it seems that google just doesn't like macs. I just google the same thing on youtube. Stuff em.

You don't need to turn on Java, it's a security risk.

In the IE main menu select the [Internet Options > Security] tab and then click on [Internet]. There are two buttons on the applet, click [Custom Level] which brings up another applet. Scroll down to [Scripting] and enable the first two options.

In FF, navigate to [Tools > Options > Content] and enable the option Enable Javascript. Click the Advanced button and select the options you think appropriate there.

I advise that you don't use IE because of the security risk related to BHO's (wiki it).

I had a problem w/ you tube. Very few of the videos would play. I researched it and found out that "google web accelerator" was the problem. So I uninstalled "google web accelerator" and now I have no problem.

Use FF with Noscript which gives you the chance to specify when javascript is allowed site by site. It's a FF add-on: [link to noscript.net]
