RALEIGH -- Former Sen. John Edwards has a deadline to save his spot on the national stage.

With just two weeks before their national convention, a number of Democrats are saying Edwards needs to publicly address anonymously sourced National Enquirer stories that have claimed he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby.

Democrats gather in Denver on Aug. 25 and Edwards, as the 2004 vice presidential nominee and a presidential candidate who won delegates this year, ordinarily would be locked in as a speaker.

Instead prominent Democrats say convention organizers will try to avoid the lingering questions if Edwards himself doesn't talk.

"He absolutely does have to (resolve it). If it's not true, he has to issue a stronger denial," said Gary Pearce, the Democratic strategist who ran Edwards' 1998 Senate race. "It's a very damaging thing. ... The big media has tried to be responsible and handle this with kid gloves, but it's clearly getting ready to bust out. If it's not true, he's got to stand up and say, 'This is not true. That is not my child and I'm going to take legal action against the people who are spreading these lies.' It's not enough to say, 'That's tabloid trash.'"

Perhaps one should never have been married period to be considered electable and nonblackmailable over these issues of love.He has not murdered this lady or made her murder their baby to keep up "appearances" in this wacky country.These people getting in national positions have more than enough money to take care and provide for all their children which only gets limited by jerks calling them scum over their personal charisma issues.He should not even be having to hide his baby from reporters.

Sex is not my issue, denial and deceit is my issue. Who and where he puts it has consequences, good or bad. But to deceive ANYONE shows that you will deceive me and as a result you display your integrity and should stand those consequences.

Denial of offspring is a disgrace for the child, and it just as bad as mental abuse. Say nothing, but to lie is wrong. I don't like liers. "none of your business" is a valid answer, but denial isn't.

Your from France, that explains alot. If you think sex is sacred, then should you just be doing it with anybody?? Shouldn`t you be sharing it with people who are special to you not everybody and anybody? Edwards wife has terminal cancer, he should be with her not chasing after his mister and love child. I don`t think sex is dirty, I just think people should act respectful about it.
