mopar28m User ID: 480612 United States 08/07/2008 11:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A family member asked if anyone in our family was on food-stamps because they filled-out a job application for a chain book store and it asked if anyone in your family was on foodstamps. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 480793We wondered what the purpose of the question is? I said, "Are you sure that it didn't ask if someone in your house recieved foodstamps?, because maybe the government gets some kind-of report on that in case people get hired they drop the foodstamps or something?" He said, "No, it asked specifically, "Mother, Father, anyone in your family." We couldn't figure-out if recieving foodstamps would make a difference in being hired, like maybe the store gets a tax-break for giving a food-stamp family member a job, or if it would be an advantage, or a disadvantage, and really why do they ask that? Its called welfare to work. There is also a form that the employer will need to fill out for Human Services. The food stamps won't be dropped completely unless its s SIGNIFICANT increase in income. Even then, there might be an adjustment period from food stamp reliance to self reliance. vaccinefreehealth blogspot com The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child. facebook.com/graphixyourway |

So, if they ask the question, maybe it means they participate, and they would be more inclined to hire someone if they were recieving food-stamps? If this person doesn't get a job soon, they will need them anyhow, but it would be interesting, and maybe helpfull to know if it would help the get a job sooner with that store if they had food-stamps? I also wonder if this is discrimination? They don't need foodstamps, yet, but what-if someone who already has them gets the job because of a prefrence or tax-credit, and they don't? I had a question like that with a large employer once, but it was after I was hired in orientation and I think they told us that the company got a tax-break. |

OOOOOH NO JASPER! THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT WOULD THEY!? |

Rule: the SSI recipient - at least in this case - cannot make over $500 per year and still receive SSI. Yep, that's a great way to encourage re-employment and working to regain self-sufficiency, which, of course, if one reviews these programs is not the goal. . |

It means that the last available jobs in town go to the handicapped who are promptly kicked off government assistance.....and of course the ablebodied aren't elligible for help, saving the goobermint money while out of work citizens starve. Now when you go out for fast food you can order the "Retard Special".....if you still have a job that is. |

Oh yeah but the humorous part is that they *tell you* you can make up to 800 a month and still keep health benifits. I'm giving 10 to 1 thats just a fucking lie to sucker recipients into giving up their checks. Anybody? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 444722 United States 08/08/2008 12:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is a Federal Tax Credit for companies to encourage opportunity for the various groups of the "disadvantaged". Why should the tax credits go back into the social programs and or into the open hands of the manipulators of the system?? The companies deserve the tax credit ,that created the opportunity. The forms are a mandatory part of the application process for those firms that participate - should only be given with I-9,W-4 & Other POST OFFERS The forms must be sent off weekly to the administrators for reporting and data storage(3rd party)and are not kept with the employee file. If you are given one of these forms prior to offer of real employment (where they say you are hired and you have accepted)Ask for the companies HR Director or report it to your states labor board or workforce commission. You can just do nothing and walk away |

I had a question like that with a large employer once, but it was after I was hired in orientation and I think they told us that the company got a tax-break. That is where you might be mis guided..... Companies only hiring for tax credits(WOTC) is unethical in my book, the same as the known reports of hiring practices for EEOC compliance or awarding projects based on status. and they would be more inclined to hire someone if they were receiving food-stamps? They should make a hire based on your qualifications, interview, face to face interaction, are you presentable, do you make an overall good first impression, are you dressed appropriately for the work environment, are you prepared, are you on time, what do your references say about your past performance, are you willing to work days,nights,weekends... do you have a reliable way to get to the job, do you have issues that would interfere with your responsibility to be at work???? These are some serious questions that job seekers should know that in today's tight job market ..prospective employers will be asking and expecting... I know I do |

Why would they want people who won't be paying income taxes to get jobs ahead of those who would? |

You don't have to answer the question. Welfare records are completely confidential. They do not appear on your employment or credit records or anywhere else. Even the FBI needs a federal court order to get the info. |
