This is the very reason we get such shit running for public office. Look at the presidency, the VP slot, and most of congress and ALL of the senate.
Do you see America's best and Brightest there under the banner of helping solve the nations problems? Hardly. OUr best and brightest won't run for public office? Why not? Because they can make far more money, and put up with far less intrusion into their private lives in the private sector.
What we get running for public office are people who lie about their being even human, pretending to be one thing and of course they are actually 180 degrees out from what they are pretending to be. Why the pretense? Because they wouldn't get elected if they were honest. America is a bunch of blue-nosed puritans who are all too ready to demand perfection from our leaders and we sure as hell cannot offer perfection to our nation can we?
I don't care that Larry Craig is a cocksucker. I do care he lied about it. I care that he has to lie about it to get elected. While not a brilliant senator, he wasn't a bad one either. Look at Barney Frank. He finally had the balls to say "I"M GAY AND I"M PROUD" and he's now one of the most powerful and respected men on capital hill today.
People do fuck. They fuck their spouses and they fuck other peoples spouses sometimes. What they do in their private life is between them and GOD!! Let's get the press out of their bedrooms. We are all human. All too human. To expect sexual and religious perfection from our politicians has only served to drive away the very people we need in public office vs the bunch of thieves and liars that are there now! |

Noone is perfect but I feel very sorry for all involved. It is tragic but I know how it is to be swept away by hormones and I am certainly not going to cast the first stone. It is interesting though that Mrs Edwards developed her original cancer and her recurrence when John was running activly for office. It is almost as if her body already knew what was happening when he was on the road and that this was a way to keep him faithful, temporarily at least. The DNA test should tell who the father is.It can't be denied and shouldn't be because a precious child is involved! Most women have a good idea about that sort of thing. I am sad for all concerned but most of all for Mrs Edwards.I do believe though that all concerned did believe her to be in remission while the affair was ongoing. May the Great Spirit take care of all of his children. |
