This is a power play, the Russians would have known Georgia and her allies were preparing something and let it happen. And they prepared in turn. The expansion of the invasion is surprising I would have expected them to bomb the port and pipelines and clear out both provinces to the border then stop. But it looks like they are going for regime change. Watch the facts on the ground and pay no attention to what the politicians say that is essentially noise.
