The face that launched a thousand ships
Is sinking fast, that happens you know,
The water gets below.
Seems not very long ago
Lovelier she was than any that I know.
I was asking questions about LPs and analog stereo equipment a couple of weeks ago and someone said in the thread: "Have you noticed that when LPs went out, the world went to hell?" I thought there was something to that.
I got my turntable hooked up to an old reciever I scored and I have my record collection back in my life after several many years without it.
I've been in a better mood ever since.
OP, I understand you are after something more and different than that. But part of why music sucks is the way it is produced and synthesized in the studio these days, for sure. And the shitty delivery systems for it too.
And also the era of high expectations we've been living in since the early nineties! Everyone was supposed to strike it rich, everyone is supposed to be a star, everyone is supposed to grab that brass ring and give 110% all day every day.
It's not okay to just fool around, try something without a goal in mind, be a musician with no monetary expectations or expectations of fame or success.
I think that episode might be coming to a welcome close . .
I beg you all , she is the only one that will deliver.....
Think about it when you are sleeping and she will deliver , I promise you. Alt+F4 Allows GodLikeProductions User to Check Current score in Thread Dialog.

I'm sitting here in the dark, with all the windows wide open. Some people on the street below burst out singing in multi-part harmony, just a few bars. Then they were just laughing and talking and drove off, and didn't sing any more. Never heard that before here.
Maybe the prayer for the muse to come down is working already!

Re: Where is our Muse? Why does the music suck so bad in bad times?
Well even though I was 3 sheets to the wind when I wrote this thread...
I would still like to thank everyone for their consideration in this matter and for taking a moment to see things through my old drunk eyes.
I just keep thinking to myself -when people go through wars and times like the great depression that ,one of the things that really defines it is the music.
It bothers me that the music is so awful today- I am talking seriously awful-- and I will listen to just about anything.
Once I had gone through this ,it had opened my mind to other folk stuff also:
For example..
In New England, legend says the Whip-poor-will can sense a soul departing, and can capture it as it flees.[citation needed] This is used as a plot device in H. P. Lovecraft's story The Dunwich Horror.
Due to the haunting, ethereal song, the Whip-poor-will is among the most frequently evoked symbols of the rural USA.
So to forge on ahead... lets listen to the whippoorwill for a moment shall we.
Good morning folks.

Re: Where is our Muse? Why does the music suck so bad in bad times?
In silence you will be given the Truth of all things...
Ask in silence....then listen in silence for the reply. This doesn't happen instantaneously - it happens with practice and in time - days, maybe weeks, but if you want to know The Truth - you have to be patient. You WILL be well rewarded then your life will have so much more meaning.
You don't 'hear' it - you begin to 'know' it. If you 'hear' things - you are not asking the right questions and you are receiving info from negative entities.....
Music manipulates your emotions.
You need to find YOURSELF before you give yourself and your emotions to music.
Think of a film score - it is part of the pictures, both in cahoots manipulate you and consequently your emotional self and can actually impact the way you live your physical life.
I used to love Muse and they 'know' much of what's going on. I still love to hear them and they're appearing at the V festival here in the UK this weekend - watch Channel 4 online to see them - if there is such a thing as C4 online - try More 4 cable....
However, try silence and see what happens.
If you really want to 'know' and you really mean it from the heart - you WON'T be disappointed.
So we understand each other -the Muse that I speak of is not a Band.
The Muse I speak of a water nymphs. Sisters and Goddess.
The canonical nine Muses, with their fields of patronage, as established since the Renaissance, are:
* Calliope (the 'beautiful of speech'): chief of the muses and muse of epic or heroic poetry
* Clio (the 'glorious one'): muse of history
* Erato (the 'amorous one'): muse of love or erotic poetry, lyrics, and marriage songs
* Euterpe (the 'well-pleasing'): muse of music and lyric poetry
* Melpomene (the 'chanting one'): muse of tragedy
* Polyhymnia or Polymnia (the '[singer] of many hymns'): muse of sacred song, oratory, lyric, singing and rhetoric
* Terpsichore (the '[one who] delights in dance'): muse of choral song and dance
* Thalia (the 'blossoming one'): muse of comedy and bucolic poetry
* Urania (the 'celestial one'): muse of astronomy
"No Muse-poet grows conscious of the Muse except by experience of a woman in whom the Goddess is to some degree resident; just as no Apollonian poet can perform his proper function unless he lives under a monarchy or a quasi-monarchy. A Muse-poet falls in love, absolutely, and his true love is for him the embodiment of the Muse...
But the real, perpetually obsessed Muse-poet distinguishes between the Goddess as manifest in the supreme power, glory, wisdom and love of woman, and the individual woman whom the Goddess may make her instrument...
The Goddess abides; and perhaps he will again have knowledge of her through his experience of another woman...
Can-not everyone see the beauty in what I am saying?
Everyone speaks of Love and being gentle around here- these Muses are love personified and they can only become known through Love of another.
Now soberly I ask again. Pray they come forward and help us in our time of need. Alt+F4 Allows GodLikeProductions User to Check Current score in Thread Dialog.

Re: Where is our Muse? Why does the music suck so bad in bad times?
Hehe, this is from 1989 but many GLP'ers would identify themselves with this song:
You are born into this world
Looking down the barrel of a gun
And those who hold the gun
Want you to work fast and die young
And if you don't work
If you don't obey
They'll make you live in fear till your dying day
Those who govern hold the gun to your head
With religions, corporations, proud of blood
They've shed
CHORUS:
Whether it's God or the bomb
It's just the same
It's only fear under another name
(x2)
And the corporate snakes coming in to feed
On that pathetic fact known as human greed
Skin and bone being raked over those hot coals
This dump never seems to give time for human soul
And all those things that we have learnt
No time for questions, you'll just get burnt
You'll just get burnt
(CHORUS x2)
And those words crush you flat
Like your skull's under a brick
And the fear's so damnned strong
That it makes you sick
And you can see right through those eyes
That make you fear, that make you lie
And you're taught to hold high
Yet you wonder why
Dumb values forced upon you by the
Living lie
