1rof1 Bring on the bullshit :) Pittie mixed with Chow, it would be the body shape and frame I'd worry about, too much potential for trouble later in the dogs life.

Re: Is mix of PIT BULL and CHOW CHOW a dangerous mix or not?
All of our modern dogs including the so-called "pure-breds" are in fact mixed breeds, seen in the slightly longer time span of just a few hundred years.

What you may get with some of the modern so-called "pure-breds" is a certain likelihood that the particular dog exhibits a few traits that has been purposely put into the breed.

There are no guarantees though. For instance, Labrador Retrievers of today are more likely to be cuddly family dogs than to be very good at retrieving prey like they were once supposed to. Many of the lines are bred just for show, the larger and more muscular the "better". How would that help you find a nice dog, considering the alternative of a crossmix of whatever?

Ok, supposedly the likelihood of getting the particular properties you are after would be greater if you are looking into "pure-breds" than a "mixed breed". However, in the end it is you as dog-owner together with the genetics of the dog and its learning abilities that will determine how it ultimately turns out for you.

IMO: provide any dog with a loving and secure environment, lots of stimulation, exercise and appraisal, and it will most probably turn out to be a wonderful dog.

i read that Pitbulls is a very instictive breed, and Chow Chow is pretty tough too. What kind of temperament would the mix of those breeds make, what do you think?

i have a chow pit mix named precious and three kids and a kitten, shes a very calm but protective dog, only territorial with other dogs coming into the yard. shes one of a kind though i cant get her riled up, or get her to play tug of war or anything like that, shes just a mellow dog.
 Quoting: dgm360 477429

yeah i have a chow pit mix also and even though he's four months old he's not one of those dogs constantly biting and teething on everything. he's pretty lazy and relaxed, and all of my neighbors own dogs and they pretty much told me that they're just like babies, if you get em out there with other dog's hey won't become so protective and aggressive. he might be two aggressive and dangerous breeds, but he's just as mellow as an english bulldog.

I have a doberman huskie cross, has never even barked at a human, however, at times around other dogs, she just goes into this "devil dog" trance. It is as though instinct has taken over and she is gonna kill...it is very strange to see her day in and day out just a big ole love dog but out of nowhere in the presence of some types of other dogs, the devil dog comes out....unpredictable. I cannot take her to dog parks or to play with other dogs because half the time she is great but then...........devil dog...

that is my problem with the pit chow idea, could be great and then outta nowhere DEVIL DOG....some of you will know what I mean by that..the look....

beautiful loving affectionate dog...
but one person dog, and aggressive indeed!!
most cities have a two bite rule and dog must be put down...
bye bye akita chow
even though it was the stupid humans fault for sticking their hands in his face in the first place... all he did was nip, and they would withdraw their hand causing injury...
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
not good with children, or other people... did not give a shit about other animals and would bark all damn day at everything passing by the house... and would run over anything in his path to the door when he heard a doorbell or knocking sound..

Well, I believe that dogs are what they are raised to be. Yeah, you can get a bad one if it takes on the bad traits of both sides. Raise a dog to obey and it usually will.

Chows are very aggressive towards humans even when they're not raised that way.

A pitbull IS NOT aggressive towards humans UNLESS raised that way--- and 3/4 of the time, normal people CAN NOT make them aggressive towards humans. Pits were made to fight other dogs, period.

A combination of the two could very well make one mean mofo. It's hard to tell. Most chows don't give a shit.

If you have to ask that why would you want it? Yes that mix has the potential to be very aggressive to humans, and powerfull enough to do massive damage.

Are you for real.
Yes they're dangerous.
Look at it this way. Sharpei are people agressive guard dogs. That are really bad with kids.
Originally Chinese fighting dogs.My experience with Shar Pei is bad to say the least.

And pitbulls are pretty dangerous but generally people friendy, unless trained otherwise.

This mix is extremely dangerous and should not be owned by anyone other than those experienced and responsible to own this dog. It's a loaded gun.

It's really hard to tell about Pits,
unless you know the breed-line.

Some breeders are
breeding them differently these
days, and they are becoming
very domesticated and no longer
have the aggressive qualities
they used to.

I've had several dogs in my life-time,
and my Pit is the best buddy I've
ever had. I love him to pieces.

Re: Is mix of PIT BULL and CHOW CHOW a dangerous mix or not?
All the lies on here about Chow Chows ... once a Chow owns you you will never want another breed.

Presently I have a 6 year old chow named Teddy He was overly timid at the time I got him from the Abington Pa. SPCA ...timid to the point that he would fall to the floor and shake and flinch at every hand movement. In about a month I was able to bring him totally around, he is very non-aggressive, likes all animals and does not bark at other dogs when they are barking at him. He lives in the house, sleeps on the beds and has free roam of the house, that I have been raising my chows, three to date for 30 years. the previous two lived out their lives and died in my arms ... one reaching the age of 21 years old . my chow only goes at the most 4 hours without having someone present to keep him company. I do not chain my Chow nor do I crate him, he gets feed twice a day a mixture of canned food and fresh broiled chicken and flax seed (his preference ...he refuses dry dog food, much to my dismay) he gets two 30-45 min walks a day and has never been yelled at or hit in the 5 years I've had him. to put it bluntly he is spoiled.
My chow has been to the Vet more times in the past year than I have in 10 years.. He goes through this limping thing for a day every month and the Vet can find nothing wrong with him...he even walks out of the Vets with no limp ...making a total fool out of me. Oh ...and I talk to my Chow constantly, he seems to enjoy that. When I go on vacation to the beach, camping out in a tent ... he goes along with me. I feel the need to make his life better because of the abuse and hard life he had before I adopted him. He has brought so much joy into my life. When I first saw him every instinct, every advise on what dog to buy told me to stay away from him .. he was to timid, afraid of his own shadow, not typical Chow behavior and when I first loaded him into the Van ... he pooped in the van... I rolled my eyes thinking what did I get myself into . It took a month to gain his trust now it is like he is a totally different dog , had i known I would have named him Zen instead of Teddy because Zen fits his totally relaxed personality, he won't even chase Squirrels does not even pay attention to them or other dogs for the most part, loves cats, birds ... he does bounce up and down when he sees a rabbit all without barking at it .. it is so strange to watch, The SPCA told me he ran wild for quite a while as a puppy and was very hard for the dog law enforcement officer to catch. The two Chows I had before that lived out their lives occasionally would fight, and breaking up one of those fights was the first time I ever was bitten by a dog....and they bite hard, same bite ratio as a pit bull.
When Sasha clamped down on my elbow (she thought she was biting my other chow snuggles) I instinctively smacked her, She just looked at me with a look that told me that I had lost her trust forever ... and I did, oh she never bit me again but she gravitated toward my roommate over me, even though I was the one taking care of her all the time, she is the one that lived 21 years, I used to have too carry her out when she got older to go to the bathroom because of her arthritis .. but even so, she never left me forget that she did not trust me. Live and learn, that is why I will never yell at or hit a Chow again it is not worth that loss of trust because everything you accomplish in bringing a rescue dog around is lost at that very moment you respond in anger ..even if it is instinctual.

So if you are buying a chow and intend to chain it to the backyard tree, ignore it and not socialize it ..them yes
you will have a dangerous dog - But if you give that dog lots of love and socialize him you will be rewarded 10 fold,
A dog is a reflection of it's owner.

Both of those breeds are agressive.
Dangerous mix imwio.
I will not have a ChowChow for any reason/ too likely to bite people and get you sued.

Pit bulls are bred to love to fight.
Owners make them dangerous to people.

My pit bull loved to get his tummy tickled.
He loved people but also loved to fight with other dogs.
His constant companion was a doberman.
They ate and slept side by side, and fought all day long like the 3 Musketeers.

A pet/friend Minnesota timberwolf would watch them fight.
bark out and both would sit.
He would get up and touch noses with one of them.
They then went through the fight again with the wolf taking one part and showing what they did wrong.

He then sat and watched again as they repeated the sparring, doing it like he had shown them.
 Quoting: himself

i know a timberwolf who took a so called mean pit and killed and ripped his head off and started eating him over a $100 bet--true story/took 2 seconds
pit bulls are overrated-people fear them and they should--they kill family members children all the time--they are mean to people--other dogs like a siberian husky are very people friendly & can take a pit and show him a thing or two--if the pit lives--huskies can pull a sled 8 mile an hour all day long-now thats something a pit bull cant do!
my 80 lb siberian aint afraid of no pit
but he will lick to death most humans.
i do not like these macho type dogs and then when the dog kills a person its because the owner made it that way for the most part. a breed i would never have is a pit bull.
If you have a family and a pit bull dog//==//look at your kids and say who do i love more? The pits who have killed children/do you think those dog owners ever thought there dog would do such a thing to one of the family?
Husky--not a watch dog but i wont get sued over him either.

Chows are more mean then Pitts. Pitts are made mean by man.
They are naturally lap dogs.....

Been around many in my life, most I have known, have been owned by women..... 1 owned, by a man, and as a puppy, he used to beat the shit out of it because he'd let it run off a leash, and then it would get excited and wanted to be around people, and the male owner would grab it and sock it if it ran away from him, while off leash, it just wanted to play with the passing people.

While working as a vet tech a few years back, we had a few chows that would come in, and most could not be treated unless the owner was present. They are very protective dogs, and usually only care for interaction with their owners.....

That is my experience with both dog breeds.

here are some facts not one persons opionion/including mine!

The deadliest dogs
Merritt Clifton, editor of Animal People, has conducted an unusually detailed study of dog bites from 1982 to the present. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.) The Clifton study show the number of serious canine-inflicted injuries by breed. The author's observations about the breeds and generally how to deal with the dangerous dog problem are enlightening.

According to the Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes are responsible for 74% of attacks that were included in the study, 68% of the attacks upon children, 82% of the attacks upon adults, 65% of the deaths, and 68% of the maimings. In more than two-thirds of the cases included in the study, the life-threatening or fatal attack was apparently the first known dangerous behavior by the animal in question. Clifton states:

If almost any other dog has a bad moment, someone may get bitten, but will not be maimed for life or killed, and the actuarial risk is accordingly reasonable. If a pit bull terrier or a Rottweiler has a bad moment, often someone is maimed or killed--and that has now created off-the-chart actuarial risk, for which the dogs as well as their victims are paying the price.

Clifton's opinions are as interesting as his statistics. For example, he says, "Pit bulls and Rottweilers are accordingly dogs who not only must be handled with special precautions, but also must be regulated with special requirements appropriate to the risk they may pose to the public and other animals, if they are to be kept at all."

Chows are more mean then Pitts. Pitts are made mean by man.

Re: Is mix of PIT BULL and CHOW CHOW a dangerous mix or not?
In recent years, the dogs responsible for the bulk of the homicides are pit bulls and Rottweilers:

Studies of dog bite injuries have reported that:
The median age of patients bitten was 15 years, with children, especially boys aged 5 to 9 years, having the highest incidence rate
The odds that a bite victim will be a child are 3.2 to 1. (CDC.)
Children seen in emergency departments were more likely than older persons to be bitten on the face, neck, and head. 77% of injuries to children under 10 years old are facial.
Severe injuries occur almost exclusively in children less than 10 years of age.
The majority of dog attacks (61%) happen at home or in a familiar place.
The vast majority of biting dogs (77%) belong to the victim's family or a friend.
When a child less than 4 years old is the victim, the family dog was the attacker half the time (47%), and the attack almost always happened in the family home (90%).
