Re: Grand Canyon Dam Burst !!! Breaking !!!Quote

I've been in that canyon many times. The problem is...the area that has the locals homes is on a fairly broad, flat valley with gardens and horse corrals with a creek flowing thru the center, more or less. Then the creek funnels into a gorge that becomes Havasu Falls (google for pics). The camping area is below havasu falls a mile or so, then about a mile or so further is Moony falls. If the campers got washed down Moony falls...they are goners, but there are many trees to hang onto or elevated spots along the wall of the canyon to scramble onto. Keep hope alive...

Re: Grand Canyon Dam Burst !!! Breaking !!!Quote

Slightly off subject, but ....

We likely have a lot of dams around the country which need to breeched and rebuilt.

Severe drought in the Carolinas right now and in Tryon NC, for the first time I've ever known, water is not flowing over the top of the dam at Lake Lanier (on the SC side) which is the sole source of the town's water supply. This is an old type cement dam where water is kept level by the flow over the top of the dam.

Last week I drove down and looked at the dam and it is leaking! You can tell because the dam is dry, but water is seeping through the seams of the cement, more so on the deeper side of the water than on the shallower side. I've been hearing that Tryon is looking to the Pacolet River as a second water source. My guess is that they had better hurry this project along before the state comes in and breeches the dam.

I say we demand to get our soldiers and National Guard back to take care of this dam burst and all the other emergency things that are going on today. Why are we building up the infrastructures of other countries when all our shit in this country is breaking. Why are we defending other countries borders while ours is left open. Why Why Why. My blood pressure is rising as I type this so I will quit and let somebody else add their thoughts here rant

Amen to the National Guard fixing infrastructure. I bet you they'd rather be back here fixing stuff, too. Lake Okeechobee in Florida is a potential large scale doomage scenario if the right storm caused flooding in the right places. That lake and its levees need some serious investment of resources and labor.
