BRUSSELS, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Russia's ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin warned Wednesday NATO against filling the gap of losses of the Georgian military incurred in its conflict with Russia.
"Any attempt of NATO to fill the gap of losses of the Georgian army contradicts the conventions of the OSCE (Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe)," Rogozin told reporters.
All NATO countries, Russia and Georgia are members of the OSCE.
He said the provision of strategic armament to Georgia and the flight of NATO reconnaissance planes along Russia's borders as requested by Georgia are regarded as hostile actions to Russia.
He warned that these actions may make Russia change its position on its relationship with the West, including military cooperation and on Moscow's policy on Iran.

Im more worried about a "non-response" or weak talk than physical threats because the PNAC boys and the Cheney team are quietly scheming up something "good" to answer Russias bold move in georgia
They wont let Russia get away with this.
I think Iran has a green light now because if Israel/US does not attack it will be perceived as weakness and loss of face.
A big part of war is Psychological advantage.
The ball is now in Cheneys court. |

I wonder if creating a pretext to invade and savage your neighbors "contradicts the conventions of the OSCE"??
As far as Iran - Russia has been a thorn in the side of the west on Iran - even supplying their nuclear fuel. Fuck 'em - at least we know who our enemy is.. I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.

Whaaaat?
What are you smoking?
They created a pretext HOW? They didn't start this. U.S.-controlled Georgia launched the brutal attack on Russian civilians and then Russia retaliated.
Of course they are taking full advantage of the situation, just as the U.S. would in a similar situation -- but let's not buy into the BS propaganda in the U.S. about how Russia started all this, as that's complete and utter bunk. |

Yup, but to use them against civilians warrants a very strong response against them.

Of course Russia started it - who else had anything to gain? Here is what was going on on August 6 - BEFORE the fighting officially broke out..
[link to www.messenger.com.ge]
The Russians started this up a while ago, by issuing Russian passports to any South Ossetian that wanted one. Then they had the separatists provoke the Georgian gov't - and PRESTO! - a pretext to invade Georgia to "rescue" their citizens of convenience.
They are doing the same thing now in Ukraine - distributing passports in the Crimean peninsula, which they intend to grab next.. I've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.

No, GOG, it's not. S Ossetians have been allied with Russia from the get-go. They never wanted to be part of Georgia.
If I was a S Ossetian separatist, and I saw things heating up with Georgi in their desperation to become a NATO member (remember NATO told Georgia they would NOT be considered for membership until the country was unified) coupled with witnessing the West and Israel weaponizing Georgia and, just for good measure, throw in a fight for strategic military position and control of Georgian land for pipelines, my S Ossetian ass would be applying for a Russian passport before I could get my shoes on.

Lieberman said he and Graham "would like to see the United States provide assistance to the Georgian military — self-defense equipment that will help them defend and deter against Russian aggression in the future" — specifically, anti-aircraft and anti-tank systems. |
