I have stuff on Craigslist and have a dual pricing between pre1964 silver coins and fiat currency. Here's what I did. Since the beginning of the American dollar the silver has been consistent at .7734oz ASW per one dollar. A dime is 0.07236oz; a quarter 0.1808oz and a half at 0.3617oz. A dime isn't quite 1/10th in silver content as $1 but close enough. So I use the .7734oz figure as my multiplier against bullion silver value. Or you can use the .7236oz ASW figure to represent $1 or (10) dimes. For example if silver is trading at $30oz I would calculate .7734oz * 30 = $23.20 to represent every $1 in silver coin at melt value. So for something I am selling on Craigslist for $95, I would calculate $95/23.20 = 4.0842 which I could round up to $4.10 in junk silver or round down to $4.00 in junk silver. I don't try to analyze or figure in the silver content for the 1942-45 silver "nickels" or the 1965-1970 half dollars (40% silver)as the ASW ratios are different due to a lower silver content. |
