Heard of Abraham/Esther and Jerry Hicks? Are they frauds?
Ok, I am studying the Law of Attraction. And Esther Hicks is a famous teacher. I never much paied attention to her stuff. But I came across a youtube video. Apparently, their whole schtick is that they channel these Spirits who speak through Esther at conferences. Apparently the Spirits are collectively called Abraham. I believe the Law of attraction and positive thinking is beneficial in my life, but the Hicks stuff seems like a scam and cult. Is anyone familiar with them?

In the early 1990's they warned about massive earth changes, huge constant earthquakes, upheaval for a while until finally ending and leading to some kind of golden age.

They made it seem like it was going to be fairly soon.

It's like 18 years later...

I dunno, its tiring with people like these.

I don't know if they are channeling or just saying what they say from their heart, but imho it does not matter; the Law of Attraction (you could give it any other name) IS WORKING.

Our FEELINGS have effect on our reality, it proved itself several times for me..not our thoughts, not our ideas or plans: feelings. The effects present themselves in seemingly random coincidences, that all point towards manifestation of what we were wishing for.
The tricky thing is is how to put yourself in that positive emotional state, where the things you want can become reality. It worths to read the book, along with Lynn Grabhorn's "Excuse me your Life is waiting" to get practical and useful methods.

I do absolutely believe in the Law of Attraction but I don't believe in channeling spirits. I know maybe it all seems like new age stuff. But there is a big difference to me between believing and practicing LOA and spirit channeling. Also, if I believe Hicks is lying about being channeled then how can I believe anything else they say?

We are all a kind of mixture of good and bad, aren't we, OP? They probably want to make a living, so they do this channeling to get more people into buying their books and videos, plus what they say about the LOA may not even be their own discovery, but who cares? They help to spread this amazing Law, that is all that counts. LOA makes an echo in my heart "rings true" to me - to my intuition.
Finding stuff like this in the thousands of esoteric books is like finding diamonds in the sand.

The Law of Attraction predates Abraham/Hicks. There is a book from the early 1900's that outlines it called "The secret to wealth" or something like that. Also the Napoleon Hill classic Think and Grow Rich.

Every channeler I have ever heard sounds like a scammer to me. They spew some vagaries and platitudes and call it profound.

I can believe that the idea is not new. The law of attraction is not about money though; "The secret" also narrows down the applications to gaining wealth, although it can be used in every aspect of life.

It's been a long time since I've read Abraham, but I did enjoy the material and did not find it negative or that it was going to send someone down the wrong path.

Totally disempowering, food for the ego, to keep you at a low level, to keep you from taking your power back, from doing your own thinking.

I see other posters like them, you will have to make your own decision, can you do that?

They are a scam.

Esther channels this information, supposedly - just like "the council of nine" do/did. It's all a new age scam designed to prepare us for some fake enlightenment whereby the governments and corporations can use us to their own wicked end.

STEER CLEAR.

The trick is to give you something interesting like "wishful thinking works", then they keep you on a string, i.e. providing lots of interesting objective knowledge. They really studied human nature well and use it to keep humanity at a low level, mind-control. They do not want you to become a sovereign being.

In reality you do not need anyone, all answers that matter are within.

Re: Heard of Abraham/Esther and Jerry Hicks? Are they frauds?
I love Esther. Nothing she says is harmful, only helpful.

She's really given her life for this, she has no kids, and she and her husband don't charge crazy fees. They don't do personal readings.

When The Secret was out, Esther was in the original version I have, that's how I got into Abraham. Anyway, the hicks didn't like how The Secret focused on material wealth mainly. They felt the Secret was too simplistic. They had the original Law of Attraction message years before Rhonda Byrne (who plaigerised a lot of the Hicks work, IMO), but they didn't raise a big stink. They felt they had a more evolved message, so they merely asked to be removed from the DVD and the book. No suing, not big stink.

Listen to heart when you hear her speak. Does it make sense to you? Then that's all you need to know. There is no cult, no meeting place for Abraham. They don't do that. they give lectures and I'm sure some people follow them around but most people have a groupie or two.

Enjoy the wisdom and beauty of the messages, it's all about you and your path in life.

There is a site that has like 120 FREE Law of Attraction books. Your Invisible Power was the first one I read. By Genevieve Behrend that she wrote in the 20's. She was a fan of Science of Mind, a trend at that time. The thing is, I think it's healthy to read all that you can from lots of different perspectives. Some speak to you more than others.

One thing Esther has said that is most true is this: Books don't teach, you have to go through the experience.

 Quoting: Darza

I was born into a Christian household. Nothing could be more domineering, controlling, limiting, close minded than to have a religion forced down one's throat. The opposite is a life of "no-touch no-faith" or "seeing to believe". The teaching of Abraham are neither. They go beyond any religion yet are applicable to ALL religions. They go beyond human understanding, yet shed clarity to enigmas of science. They have nothing to do with the materialistics yet can enhance one's life by a sort of osmosis... If we are happy, we have the clarity to make things happen. Allowing the good... This is in no way limiting, dis empowering or crippling, regardless of viewpoint, religion or faith (or lack of).

Abraham speaks of NOT depending on anyone else's life experience. To not blame others for our personal issues. All Abraham does is simply bring light into the dark areas. They don't preach. They don't call themselves all knowing or gods. All they do is encourage everyone to search within, to look for clear thoughts and emotions. Hundreds of pieces of advice given by Abraham are readily in the Bible as well. Albeit in different wording, yet there in essence and substance.

The Law of Attraction is not about money, it's about finding yourself, finding peace, joy and love. Sure these are words used by every sect, religion and group under the Sun, but the fact is. Or at least in my experience. Listening and reading Abraham Hicks has given me the clarity I never had while being a practicing Christian. It's given me the empowerment to know that I am in control of my emotions, that I'm not a slave to my human condition. That life is indeed eternal and that the bigger picture is beyond dusty old books and scriptures written for another time and another peoples. I don't need to feel guilt, or blame anything or anyone for my problems. That I am responsible for what I allow to happen to me and for me.

Life is a joy to live and experience. You grow and enhance other's experiences. Why you see all this as silly, dis empowering, unclear or lacking in any way, truly beats me.

Live and let live, you don't have all the answers.

I'm certain that Jerry and Esther Hicks are legit. However, my certainty is pretty much useless to you. The only way to really know is to learn more about them and what they say.

1. Watch the youtube videos.
2. Read one or more of their books. You can get them at most public libraries.
3. If it seems worth it, attend one of their seminars.

I think through what Abraham says, you can change your life for the better. And nothing they say can harm you. They aren't a religion, a cult, a set of rules or controlling in any way. The information is available. It's a pity to waste it.

Re: Heard of Abraham/Esther and Jerry Hicks? Are they frauds?
I never really had luck with the Law of Attraction. I seem to attract the opposite.

For example, I don't drink, yet I attract drinkers.
Or I give, and then don't receive.

And I see negative people all around me attracting positive things, and I get very discouraged.

It led me to wonder if maybe we don't have as much power as we would like, perhaps because things like this leave God's will out of the picture.
