Re: Modern music mostly sucks.Quote

I have been listening to an info commercial selling early rock music, Fats Domino, etc.

And I have sweet memories of Dylan,Hendrix, the Stones, the Beetles, the Doors, etc.

I'm trying to stay tuned into contemporary music, and there is some good stuff, but none of it is special, in my opinion.

Am I the only person who thinks that contemporary music lacks that certain something?

Will something ever appear that creates the excitement of Elvis or the Beetles?

I guess so, but when?

Your old music is too fuckin weak

it has no power. modern music has punch and power

the real problem is we're paying for our system's failed concept of business hierarchy. The guys at the top (everywhere) are usually the most agressive, not the most qualified or talented. The people who are willing to lie cheat and steal (even murder) to get ahead are the ones who eventually end up in control.

One of the characteristics of these people is as middle managers they always get rid of anyone who looks better than them, they fire anyone who is more talented or creative, or even better liked. The want to make sure if a promotion comes along they are the one who looks the most qualified among the crew.

In music the same thing has happened. Producers, record executives and even a lot of the musicians have been working this system to get where they are. Record company executives today are nothing less than greedy pigs who have no taste or spirit.

Spirituality is gone from not just music but every possible industry from politics, education and art to films, music and any corporate environment.

Assholes run the world... of course the music sucks.

it does suck these days. Thats why older acts in their 50s and 60s continue to tour and make huge amounts of money. Music is in bad shape and the industry is pretty much dead. The best new artists are underground, don't get much airplay on radio, and use the internet to release their music. Its practically impossible to break into the business nowadays because its too difficult to make money. Unless you are a Disney Pop Star like that little Miley Cyrus of course.

It is just a generational thing. It is scientifically proven that we tend to like the music from our teen years. So, everyone get over themselves and stop these useless threads about music being dead.

You can thank Clear Channel and media consolidation.

Musicians are produced on an assembly line today.

If you notice, many of the music hits and movies of today are rip offs or slightly modified copies of the past.

Commercial music and musicians are now commodities that can be easily replaced.

sorry, to me, this is the end of music.
meatheads playing parody rock.

why do we have to listen to bands like this?

american rock has degraded badly.

everyone trying to sound like eddy vedder, top gun soundtrack guitar solos......no inventiveness. no searching for new sounds or new combinations of notes.

sometimes if you are worn out on the commercial music, you can find solace in jazz. Not the bop stuff, but what modern players are doing. (I exclude Kenny G from my list, he is not a jazz musician, in fact, he barely is a musician)

I'm talking about John Scofied, and Bill Frisel. Those guys have some licks. And it doesn't sound like anything or anybody.
