Re: Microsofts Touch Screen ComputerQuote

"Surface is essentially a Windows Vista PC tucked inside a table, topped with a 30-inch reflective surface in a clear acrylic frame. A projector underneath the surface projects an image onto its underside, while five cameras in the machine's housing record reflections of infrared light from human fingertips. The camera can also recognize objects placed on the surface if those objects have specially-designed "tags" applied to them. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by placing and moving tagged objects."

Not really that high tech... maybe if it could recognize objects without them needing to have "special tags"? Now that would be neat! And I think its a bit too pricey for what it does.

Re: Microsofts Touch Screen ComputerQuote

Touchscreens really aren't that revolutionary, they have been around for already quite a while. The monitor detects the touch, then regard the finger as a mouse. However, for general purposes many people will probably prefer a mouse as it is quicker and more ergonomical.

Here is an example of a LG 15" Touchscreen for approx 550$ that works with current windows versions.

Windows seven will incorporate enhanced touch screen interface features, but imho that's just a gimmick as not many people will prefer touch interfaces for general purposed over a mouse.
