Actually ...We fill up with Petroleum Spirit (Petrol) which is the same as Gasoline (Gas) Both are petroleum-derived liquid mixture consisting mostly of aliphatic hydrocarbons, enhanced with iso-octane or the aromatic hydrocarbons toluene and benzene to increase its octane rating.
Cheers.

According to the Oxford Dictionary: [link to www.askoxford.com]

labour
(US & Austral. labor)

• noun 1 work, especially hard physical work. 2 workers collectively. 3 (Labour) the Labour Party. 4 the process of childbirth.

• verb 1 work hard. 2 work at an unskilled manual job. 3 have difficulty despite working hard. 4 move with difficulty. 5 (labour under) be misled by (a mistaken belief).

— PHRASES a labour of love a task done for pleasure, not reward. labour the point elaborate something at excessive length.

— ORIGIN Latin labor ‘toil, trouble’.

Note that "labour" is derived from the Latin word "labor".

If you get the French influence our of English, you wind up with words such as "labor", "behavior", "favor", and so on.

Varieties of English
From around 1600, the English colonization of North America resulted in the creation of a distinct American variety of English. Some English pronunciations and words "froze" when they reached America. In some ways, American English is more like the English of Shakespeare than modern British English is. Some expressions that the British call "Americanisms" are in fact original British expressions that were preserved in the colonies while lost for a time in Britain (for example trash for rubbish, loan as a verb instead of lend, and fall for autumn; another example, frame-up, was re-imported into Britain through Hollywood gangster movies). Spanish also had an influence on American English (and subsequently British English), with words like canyon, ranch, stampede and vigilante being examples of Spanish words that entered English through the settlement of the American West. French words (through Louisiana) and West African words (through the slave trade) also influenced American English (and so, to an extent, British English).

Re: Why do they keep calling Soccer Football?Quote

Soccer should be called Football
American Football should be called Tackleball
Kickball should be called Kickball

Now that that's cleared up...Let's talk about Handball in the Olympics...

I liked the game but Handball to me is played with a small blue rubber ball that you hit with your hand up against a wall in an enclosed room.

Olympic Handball should have been called Rushball.
