My wife just got back from trying to get our nephew from school. The school is surrounded by police cars & the kids are in lockdown mode.
She couldn't get within 500 ft. of the building & when she tried to ask the cops what the hell was going on they told her she had 1 minute to vacate the area or she'd be taken into custody.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Northwood Elementary School is in lock-down mode while police conduct a manhunt.
Anchorage police report they were serving a felony warrant this afternoon. When the suspect saw police he took off in his car.
Police are searching in the Spenard area.

That's just nuts! The school can supposedly take better care of the kids, when the ONE kid they're after already took off? I don't get that. Once the kid is gone and they go in pursuit, why not let the adults pick up the kids at normal times or if necessary (Dr appointment, etc...) |

I'm waiting to hear from my sister & brother inlaw. Both got automated calls from the school district, & left their jobs.
I can't stand what the kids have to go through in school these days.

They are only doing it for the children's safety. If they didn't do this lockdown..and the guy got in the school..then people would be screaming that there wasn't enough security at the school. You can't have it both ways people. |

This is why I pulled my three boys out of school this year. I am home schooling them. I am finding out that many other parents are doing the same thing. Let's take back our kids educations! They aren't learning anything in school anyway. |

And kids should be afraid..how many times a month are you hearing about shootings or stabbings at school? I think there should be metal detectors at schools. |

Hiding under desks. Ummm, those drills were in the 60's...you know the Cold War period. ;)
And all the high schools "here" have metal detectors and private security guards checking their backpacks every morning upon entry.
I don't think kids as much SHOULD be scared as they should be aware of their surroundings and the possibilities of what could happen. When I taught my kids about inappropriate touching...I didn't make sure they were scared, I just made them aware. There's a huge difference. You know? |

My kids would NOT be going back there!
Home school ... you're kids are safe AND better educated, with none of the gang culture, or the dumbing down.
