A high pressure ridge over the lower portion of the gulf states will force this beast into the Texas coast. It will not head east, invest 95 is close enough behind to cause it to continue tracking NW. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18328
INVEST 95 will soon become Hurricane Hanna. |

HAARP induced hurricane? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 491171
Way before HAARP was even thought of - I'm talking 50, 60, 70 years ago - who in the hell engineered these hurricanes? Could it have been an act of nature? SHIT lets not go there. Can't hardly fathom the thought that nature might have something to do with these hurricanes. Nope that would be too damn logical. |

Maybe take a vacation out west/New Mexico,i have way many Oak trees around my place and they have no tap roots so my house would be junk from high winds like gus would throw at us or those nados could take it out.
Ive went through really bad storms of late, not fun when your home alone and the trees are bending and creakin with 50-60 mph winds gust.Thank god the trees i lost were far enough away from the house as not ta cause any damage. |

I knowwhatyour saying! I lived there when Katrina hit. Bet some are hoping for this to hit there. FEMA will give them $50,000 apiece again. Of course it only goes to the uninsured. The voice of experience here can tell you it will probably be best to cancel your insurance. You don't get squat from the insurance companies and you have to fight tooth and nail to get it. |

In some places yes.. but, not the national average. I read during katrina gas rose in a week 60 cents.. so if it does the same thing this time we would be $3.99.. i already seen it at $4.04 regular gas prices so no big deal..... But, if it grows to a cat4-5 yes it will rise but not $5.00 national average unless it shuts down total production and stays months down.. |

Could be a category 2 by now, but the mountains in Grand Anse and Ouest regions of the country should weaken Gus temporarily, then he will restrengthen once his centre is back over open hot waters. |

Correction, he hasn't strengthened yet. He is over land, so we'll have to see where the strength goes once he is back over open water.

On local radio in New Orleans the so called think tank show
host said he just saw on msnbc financial news that the projection red line comes to NOLA, the gulf, and they had a map of all the wells and drilling interests.
SO HOST SAYS that NOLA and LOUISIANA need to show the rest of the company why we matter, ie he said
turn off the tap
if they don't think we are important
hmmm
no one really OWNS oil anyway, ya know
it's all about retrievel and delivery
sort of like how you don't sell weed, it sells itself
you pay for delivery
it isn't yours to sell
gift from the earth, all that
yeah
control control control
oh well back to work! |

That may be a conservative estimate. Gustav could reach category 4 or even 5.
EPIC FAIL............WRONG AGAIN! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 463567
Read it again - they're projecting that it will enter the gulf at around CAT 3. By the time it makes landfall on the gulf coast, it could be much higher depending on how long it stays out there and strengthens.
Not wrong - it may very well be a 4 or 5 when it strikes the coast. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 426194 8/26/2008 2:00 PM | | Re: CAT THREE HURRICANE TO ENTER GULF IN 5 DAYS --- PREPARE NOW | Quote | I've lived near the gulf coast for over 30 years. CAT 3 or more and I'm gone.
What's more, I leave EARLY. If I THINK it will be a CAT 3 and I THINK it might be a threat to my location, I leave WAY early - before the mandatory evacuations and the crazy crowded roads.
Remember Rita.
They evacuated Houston unnecessarily, and all those on the gulf coast were trying to get through Houston on forced routes together with all of the Houston folks that were encouraged to leave. Don't wait for the forced routes and the mandatory evacuations if your job gives you the latitude to head out early. |

Umm yeah, look man, the hurricanes hit highly poulated areas because humans are too dumb to realize the coast is a bad place to live.
The hurricans arent tracking towards us we just built our houses where they commonly hit. Everyone loves the beach and the nice climits the coastal areas provide. But when a hurricane smacks em they act all suprised. As if those areas haven't been hit for millenia.
I for one am shicked that a city like New Orleans that sat below the sea level got flooded. How woulda thunk it right?
Stupid often gets exactly what it deserves. |

I couldn't believe people rolled in those modular homes soon to be so much more debris.
I keep thinking Gilligan's Island, and they are recreating Melrose Place? I just don't get it. The cool thing about tropical islands is the weather, and sometimes storms come and knock down your hut... |

The problem was the hurricane lull between the 1960s and 1990s.
People didn't consider "hypercanes" because they didn't occur a lot. But, because of history and science we now know major hurricanes occur in intervals. Studies have gone back 3,000 years by using trees and soil deposits. Even Boston has had it's share of category 3+ hurricanes over the last thousand years.
It wasn't until Hurricane Andrew did anyone realize how dangerous Atlantic cities are. |
