Their saying Gustav will hit NO on same day!
I was born and raised in New Orleans and I am heartbroken by what happen to the city and people as a result of Katrina. But Hurricane Katrina did not hit New Orleans. . . . it hit Pearl River, Waveland, and Bay St. Louis Ms. I lived a block from the beach in Bay St. Louis. A 49' wall of water washed my house away. I never even found it. Many people suffered as a result of that storm not just those in New Orleans. |

Glad you said that. People think Katrina hit NOLA because of the undo attention on NOLA, nearly exclusively. If the press had covered the rest of the gulf like they did NOLA, people would understand the scope of Katrina and what the landing point of a hurricane looks like. NOLA was ruined by flooding, not Katrina. |

that is very true...and my heart goes out to you and your family.
I posted on another thread that I think N.O. received so much coverage because it remained underwater due to the bowl, more homes were lost due to size of city...and then Rita came three weeks later, filling the city up again.
My heart goes out to you and all the people along the gulf coast...may we all find some lesson in this horrible experience. Bless you and your family...I do hope you are doing better these days. |

why oh why do they keep building and rebuilding major cities close to hurricane prone coastlines?? those that don't learn from history are DOOMED to repeat it. Quoting: CountryJoe
And midwest flood zones? There was a small town that rebuilt the town on a bluff. Can't remember the name, but looked it up on satellite, and you can see the old footprint and the new town, now with quite a view, but no "on the river" property.
We will start to see mass migrations to more stable areas. Just wait. They'll come for your drinking water too. |

I was lucky, I had insurance. But I still lived in a fema trailer for 2 years. Before that a tent for 3 months. The effects of Katrina were felt all the way to Pensacola. The suffering that was felt on the Mississippi Gulf Coast was astronomical. My chicldren are still suffering from breathing in the mold for a year. I hate what has happened to New Orleans. It is my home and my heritage. But the scope of Katrina goes much further than New Orleans. I just hope that people heed the warning this time around. |

Well, it appears our African-American friends have found yet something
else to be pissed about. A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila
Jackson Lee, of Houston ), reportedly complained that the names of
hurricanes are all Caucasian sounding names.
She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such
as Chamiqua, Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaqueal, and Jamal. I am NOT making this
up!
She would also like the weather reports to be broadcast in 'language'
that street people can understand because one of the problems that
happened in New Orleans was, that black people couldn't understand the
seriousness of the situation, due to the racially biased language of the
weather report.
I guess if the weather person says that the winds are going to blow at
140+ MPH, thats too hard to understand
I can hear it now: A weatherman in New Orleans says...
Wazzup, mutha-fukkas! Hehr-i-cane Chamiqua be headin' fo' yo ass like
Leroy on a crotch rocket! Bitch be a category fo'! So, turn off

Oh honey, I'm so sorry for everything you and your family have had to endure. People have tired of Katrina and understandably so. They'll never understand and I can see why they won't. It's difficult to put yourself in another's shoes when you don't know and haven't felt the scope and reality of what is someone else's world.
It does goes well beyond New Orleans and it's people such as yourself who get that message out ...even today. Please be safe through this and I'll be thinking of your post. A reminder that was needed. Thank you.
*hugs*
Hopefully, they will heed the early warnings...but there will always be those who want to take advantage of the situtation...because they can!
Take care... |

Everyone should panic and head for the superdome. Instill fear into every resident. Show them images of Katrina and how Gustav will be worse. Close down Albertsons to short the food supply. Make this known before landfall. Power outages to ATMs before landfall should help the panic also.
They might also want to emphasize the point that they will all perish from this storm, even if it's not true.
My opinion in this is: better safe than sorry. GET OUT SOON, GET OUT NOW while the getting is good. JUST IN CASE... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 488210
and you think that everybody who knows at least a week ahead of time that a CAT 4 or 5 HURRICANE is on the way would have enough sense to seek safe grounds prior to its arrival...

When will the FEMA pigs start taking peoples guns like they did when Katrina hit? Quoting: Nailer45
Minutes after the radio call about a citizen being advised to evacuate, who waved a gun at the cops, they will decide:
"Enough of these gun waving crazies.
Somebody is gonna get killed."
and begin to confiscate guns from everyone who does not show a Concealed Carry permit, Military ID or a badge. |
