You want exclusive rights to an OS that has already been sold to someone else?

Re: A question regarding Windows XPQuote

microsoft finds it not kosher....

You want a SEALED RETAIL copy, so that way you have nothing to worry about.......

Sigh, if you expect to pay full price. ($300USD)....

Since you have 98 you ought to be able to upgrade.

You want this:

Or something like it....

[link to www.amazon.com]

The amazon.com copy is $99.

I would NEVER buy any of the new Micorosoft activation software used, as once it's installed Microsoft considers it tied to that computer forever...

I hope you have at least 512mb of ram, and a good 10 gigabytes of free space, before you even go down this road.....

You can probably score a Windows XP used computer for cheaper then this endevor....

Re: A question regarding Windows XPQuote

Don't give up on '98, you may be able to find a driver that will help your camera work with it.

I've bought hardware in the past that said it was only compatiable with XP and up, but got it to work just fine on '98 with the right driver.

Re: A question regarding Windows XPQuote

If it's been registered, MS probably won't accept it. and you don't want the home edition on ebay. You can get xp pro from tigerdirect..com for 140 and MS is supposed to provide support for pro for 10 years.

Yes, you CAN buy used versions of XP, on Craigslist or ebay.

Be careful that it's a REAL version, not a bootleg that can't be registered..

If you need help, I'd be happy to offer advice off this post, but as I'm not a paid member, I can't.

true, you could always use an update enabler...but then, why would you buy a product that you had to use that on? that's my point.....ive got just about every version of windows from 95 on(except vista, ill wait for sp2 or later), and never bought a one of them....suckers buy software, especially "used copies"...lol

so you could get a used version, and call tech support for a new install code

when I have moved a OS from computer to computer, they only ask if it is only on one computer, I have never had them ask if I was the orginal purchaser

YES. BUY THE UPGRADE / UPDATE EDITION - CHEAPER THAN FULL.

eligable for purchase are all windows versions from 98 and NT on.

If you do an "inplace upgrade", meaning you run xp setup from within 98 Desktop to keep your folders and programs :

You can update directly Win98 - 98SE - ME to XP Home Edition

and

98,NT3.51,NT4 and win2000 directly to XP Professional

if you want to do a clean Install ( booting from XP CD and wipe the drive off all previous os ) you can do that also. :

Early setup phase will tell you at a certain point that you need to change the CD and need to put in your previous 98/ME/NT/2000 CD - that will be checked , you put back in the XP CD and setup will continue.

emule is slower, more like the old kaaza....though they do offer alot of torrent cookies lately....but, it is pirated material, so you do have to check your bit counts, scan for viruses and such....i havent had a problem with anything ive gotten, but i could be the exception....and, you get emule from download.com...lol gotta love the internet....
