How many here have unrecognized abilities? Do you feel the pain and bitterness that arises from living in a world that only seems to reward compliance and mediocrity? That only offers opportunity to the rich, or those that conform to "standardized" measurements of intelligence? No one wants to be a friend of someone having a good GPA. They, I think, might be feeling intimidated. But my intelligence is a mutation and that does not change the fact that I do not have an emotional aspect as well. When analyzed, it does not make sense, because; * Gifted people think more and hence will think about how you will feel before doing anything. They can be more understanding. * You can have talk anything with them, from silly stuff to complex life issues. * Gifted people are not back-stabbers. Even if these are facts, the world is still a sad place for intellectuals. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12432310 United States 03/07/2013 03:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My 'gift' went totally 'unserviced' during and after my public education years - and yes I was the 'smart one' who was so bullied at school that I deliberately dumbed myself down to 'fit in' - of which I never did. Couldn't get out of high school fast enough - parents didn't believe in sending females to college - it was all downhill from there. So I have been researching 'gifted adults' for a year and realize why I have had all my life what is termed 'existential depression', so commonly found in the higher-IQ crowd. Basically, we take a look around at the world and think, in crude terms, 'WTF'? And we often blame ourselves for not being just another dumbed-down sheep. Take a good look at society - look at our school system - it certainly isn't built for the gifted. What we do have are law, rules, and regulations that defend and protect corporations and entities exhibiting actions of a psychopath and to 'get along' or 'get by' must also become somewhat psychopathic just in order to say pay the bills. People's utmost escape is through the biggest mind-control device on the planet - the TV and what utter trash it all is. Unfortunately, through the endless assembly line of human procreation, manufacturing billions of entities worthy of exploitation, the elite has more than enough conduits of energy to exploit. The gifted, highly sensitive and perceptive to these society ills, must protect themselves from their depression which may lead to suicide. But the first order of business is to be recognized as gifted and talented because most of these persons have NO idea they are gifted. They just think they are 'weird', 'nerds', or 'geeks'. Instead, their minds are just different. Generations of the gifted and talented come and go with most not being serviced by educational institutions nor by their parents or society at large. It would be a completely different world if the world, en masse, recognized such talented people instead of sports stars and other celebrities. We have SO much to offer. However, we tend to be pessimists - after all, look how our hero, Nikola Tesla, was treated - the greatest gift to humanity if there ever was one. So it's back to living in our heads where we're most comfortable and try to survive on the most illogical, warlike, greedy and downright idiotic planet in the Milky Way - maybe that's also why we're such Sci-Fi fans - surely there are other planets and civilizations that take care of their intellectually-gifted ones and actually listen to them without using them just to come up with more high-tech weaponry. (Think alphabet agencies here.) What a concept. I don't see it, but maybe there's hope. |
