I've been fighting a weird fungus in part of my lawn. I grew up a country girl, and I've NO idea what this is. It starts out with the top looking puffy/fuzzy yellowish-white, doesn't seem to have roots, and when taken out seems a bit slimy like animal vomit. (Note: if you have a queazy stomach, don't see the picture or go any further) I'll stress, when pulled out when it's first starting, it seems to be starting on the tips of the grass. If a little of the fungus is left, it doesn't seem to reroot in that area. If I spray it off with water, it doesn't reroot in the downslope direction.

It first showed a few weeks ago, I cleaned it and didn't see anything for almost a week. The second time, I missed it the morning it appeared while still wet and when I tried to pull it out later in the day. It'd started to root and had the brown spores that the puff-ball type of mushrooms spread.

I thought it was gone and just showed again almost a week after the later time. Does anyone know WHAT this is? and HOW do you fight it? It's only stayed in one of my lawns, so far. The other 2 are separated by concrete walkways and it hasn't gotten there yet. Frankly, I just want it gone. It is seriously GROSS!

The picture is the fungus after I removed it from the lawn.
