We have had similar threads in the past but it is good to give a chance to newcomers. New ideas and suggestions may appear.

Let's get out of the way:

1)The Bible
2)Atlas Shrugged
3)Think and Grow Rich

Take it away...

Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer by Gregg Braden. I have never read a book that affected me so deeply or which enabled me to alter the way I think as much as this little book.

If I had to pick one book, it would probably be Willy Ley, because otherwise I'd have probably been an English Teacher. However, there are too many influences to pick just one....

Books that influenced my career:
The Conquest of Space, Willy Ley
Across Mongolian Plains, Roy Chapman Andrews (the real-life scientist after whom Indiana Jones is patterned)
Microbe Hunters, Paul de Kruif
Political theory:
The Prince, Niccolò Machiavelli
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Robert Heinlein
The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand
History:
The Story of Civilization, Will and Aerial Durant
The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon
Satire:
Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain
Candide, Voltaire
Propaganda:
The Aeneid, P. V. Naso
The Turner Diaries, "Andrew MacDonald" (William Pierce)

Hitchhikers Guide D. Adams (series)
Long Dark Teatime of the Soul(2 books)

Though I read the encyclopedia britanica as a kid, I was more impressed by fiction. The above few books led me to meet people and read about subjects I never would have, had I not read them.

Confessions of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach absolutely changed the course of my life over 15 years ago. Bringers of the Dawn by Barbara Marciniack was not far behind. Shakti Gawain's Creative Visualization was sandwiched between the two, and a real help.
