| The Boss User ID: 641016 02/12/2010 12:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I've been addicted to fennel seeds for a year and a half. I chew them when I'm surfing the net, reading a mag and almost always right after every meal. Chewing them somehow used to make me feel so good, so "right". Until I realized I'm an addict and I'm ruining my teeth and possibly compromising my health. 100-150 grams a day could very well cause nervous system damage in the longer run. Quoting: Warrior 247966Trying to quit and it isn't easy, specially since I can't find any info on why I'm craving this particular substance so intensely and how to overcome it. I'm trying to resist the urge with lemon water. It works - upto a point. Feels kinda weird though, I seem to be the only one out there with an addiction to fennel seeds. Of all things! Dang. It also contains Phytoestrogens. Enjoying your lactating manboobs yet? Pardon me for interrupting your premature celebration, but I thought it only fair to give you a sporting chance as you are new to this game. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 911304 03/09/2010 05:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yeah, I know this is old. still I read over it after stumbling on it by accident through google. Just so happens I grow fennel in my garden and know a bit about it. Let me point the one thing out that makes this real instead of just food jokes. The ripe seeds are the source of the psychotropic oil. psychotropic oil, is related and similar to Marijuana. Not addictive physically, but mentally. I can not imagine eating enough of the seeds to get anything from it, too much work when you could just smoke a fat joint instead. |
| jyoti User ID: 967479 05/11/2010 01:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OMGGGGG.. i thought i was the only one out theree!! i eat them all the time too.. reading what u wrote, felt as if i was reading something i had written about myself! i so the exact same thing, always chewing on it.. i find it soo addictive!! any meal feels incomplete without having it after!! any clue as to why its this addictive?? some substance fennel seeds have in them?? or mayb its the texture of the food we like?? |
| moth User ID: 981025 05/25/2010 06:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i also have this addiction. i started chewing them after meals to help calm sugar cravings (i am pre diabetic). it really helps, and i figured it was a healthy option, far healthier than half a pint of hagen daz. but lately ive noticed that once i start chewing i cant stop. there is definately something very addicting going on with fennel seeds. reading now that fennel seeds may actually be bad for my health is quite alarming. O_o and to the angry poster.. there is nothing wrong with wanting to be in good health. you dont have to be face down in a gutter to simply ask for help about something that concerns you. people who are addicted to food can die from that addiction.. just like people can die from a drug overdose. in fact... more people die from diet related dis-ease than anything else. i turned to an alternative.. in this case fennel seeds, to help reverse my own diet related illness. now i find the fennel seeds themselves have become an issue. there is no harm in sharing with others about this particular experience. now that i know, i will make the effort to stop. so i thank the original poster for being open about their experience. it has certainly helped me! |
| moth User ID: 981025 05/25/2010 06:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i would also like to add that the front of my tongue and the inner part of my bottom lip are sort of burnt and numb from so much chewing. makes me think of beetle nut or chewing tobacco or yea even opiates. i guess all these things come from plants anyway right so how different are fennel seeds! |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 917779 05/27/2010 01:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You might have a hormonal imbalance and your body NEEDS the Fennel, that's why you are craving them ! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 247966Fennel seeds are a natural source of Estrogen, it helps calm down males who are over-testosteroned, and for women who wish to naturally augment breast size, Fennel will assist in this too ! It's also good for digestion and relieves intestinal gas. Of all things to be "addicted" to, Fennel's not such a bad choice !! Good luck ! You're 100% correct about the hormonal imbalance. Trouble is, since I have over-production of estrogen, the fennel is giving me grief by compounding the problem. I'm praying that the lemon water is eliminating whatever is inside of me that demands fennel. Nasty withdrawal symptoms too. But I'll survive. Thank you for caring I'm addicted to fennel too, and I just got diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. here's my thread Thread: I just got diagnosed with Gender ID Disorder Ask Away (Page 3) |

This could offset an overproduction imbalance in females. I too got addicted too - I chew most of the time - it didn't balance my imbalanced hormones, [in fact something has been making my hormones worse, and all so-called balancers imbalance me], nor did they oversize my already oversized boobs, perhaps slight sensitivity in teeth just like with numb tongue at times- I know I have to cleanse my liver to balance everything else, and I will do it through master herbalism, but now that you guys confirm the reality of it being an addiction I'll be going COLD TURKEY! I could choose it forever. i try to reduce it but wen i buy a packet i chew so much that i end up wearing out the outer skin of my tongue. makes my life horrible for a few days until it grows back. but i ve been able to control it for around 8 weeks at a stretch. it is not easy though |
| Georgia User ID: 1398858 05/24/2011 05:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I thought I was the only one addicted to fennel seeds. I would chew on them night and day. The day I knew I was in trouble was the day that I opened a box in the supermarket, took a handful, started chewing on them and put the rest of the box on the shelf where I found it. I actually stole them. I knew I had to go 'cold turkey' to stop. I did but I was not happy for about one week. Now I have no desire to chew on them and it's been 2 years. |
