am here too.am addicted too User ID: 2619308 India 01/12/2012 03:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I've been addicted to fennel seeds for a year and a half. I chew them when I'm surfing the net, reading a mag and almost always right after every meal. Chewing them somehow used to make me feel so good, so "right". Until I realized I'm an addict and I'm ruining my teeth and possibly compromising my health. 100-150 grams a day could very well cause nervous system damage in the longer run. Quoting: Warrior 247966 Trying to quit and it isn't easy, specially since I can't find any info on why I'm craving this particular substance so intensely and how to overcome it. I'm trying to resist the urge with lemon water. It works - upto a point. Feels kinda weird though, I seem to be the only one out there with an addiction to fennel seeds. Of all things! Dang. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 6313471 United States 01/12/2012 04:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The "addiction" is probably just the symptom of the larger underlying issue, which is anxiety. It's a nervous response. The fennel chewing is a way of "self-medicating" your anxiety. This is true of most addictions, actually. They are a manifestation of anxiety (even if people are actually unaware of their own anxiety!) That may give you a better place to start...at the root. So, you can fix the problem, and not just the symptom. Good luck. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 7912000 United States 01/12/2012 04:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You might have a hormonal imbalance and your body NEEDS the Fennel, that's why you are craving them ! Quoting: 3rd Eye Open 477574Fennel seeds are a natural source of Estrogen, it helps calm down males who are over-testosteroned, and for women who wish to naturally augment breast size, Fennel will assist in this too ! It's also good for digestion and relieves intestinal gas. Of all things to be "addicted" to, Fennel's not such a bad choice !! Good luck ! You're 100% correct about the hormonal imbalance. Trouble is, since I have over-production of estrogen, the fennel is giving me grief by compounding the problem. I'm praying that the lemon water is eliminating whatever is inside of me that demands fennel. Nasty withdrawal symptoms too. But I'll survive. Thank you for caring Are you a dude? |

I also like things like herbal tablets because they got that same herby taste, oh and i ike fresh fennel grown in the garden and also thyme and rosemary are really nice. |

Fennel Fanatic! User ID: 20906393 United States 07/30/2012 12:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been addicted to fennel seeds too!! It started with those Indian restaurants. I was addicted to them for over 3 years!!!!! Almost "drank" them (ha,ha). I knew I had to stop b/c it also dehydrated me so much in order for my body to digest and process them. Anyway, it's been good. I just don't buy them, but if I have the opportunity to eat them (i.e. Indian restaurant, healthy food store, etc..) I take a huge handful. I am now eating anise seeds, which I love, too, but I'm not going to make this a new habit if I can help it. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there. People think I'm crazy and can't believe my craving. Oh, and I've tried caradmom seeds (in the pods), too. I do like them also, but it's an acquired taste for sure. So I've been addicted to fennel seeds for a year and a half. I chew them when I'm surfing the net, reading a mag and almost always right after every meal. Chewing them somehow used to make me feel so good, so "right". Anonymous Coward User ID: 27254917 United States 11/07/2012 05:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi, So surprised to see this post. Let me share my experience- I am 31 female, I used to eat lot of fennel seeds when in my pre-teens. I dont know how but I gave up. Recently, 2 years back, the addiction came back. I would easily eat 100+ gms each day. I went to doc for my check up ( after many many years) and they found that I am severely anemic. They put me on high dose iron pills. After a month , one fine day - I just gave up fennel seeds, my body did not crave for it anymore. I checked my blood work again and my iron is back to normal. I believe, this addiction is some how related to low iron level in your body. I am pregnant ( IVF - I was not able to conceive on my own ) now and I have this craving back. Fennel is not recommended during pregnancy so I am trying to include more iron in my diet and hopefully it will be ok again. Hope this helps. |

If you've stopped can you please tell me what you did tough to kick it I have a really bad addiction to fennel seeds, I am constantly chewing them unless I'm too lazy to go and get them from my kitchen. Sometimes when I crave them badly I look at picks and read info about them. I feel so crazy. But one thing that works for me is reading the harmful side affects that they can do to your body and that helps me crave them a lot less knowing that they can harm my health |

You have x number of estrogen receptors. Thats it. Plant estrogens are weaker than human estrogens. Maybe your body is filling the estrogen receptors with the weaker plant estrogens. Get some progesterone(cream) and get in shape. Not saying you are fat, but the number of estrogen receptors is regulated by the body fat %'s. If you are slim, turn it to muscle. If you are heavy, loose some and turn the rest to muscle. |
