WHO WOULD KNOW BETTER ABOUT PALIN, HER POLITICS, HER APPOINTING OF FRIENDS, HER SCANDALS, HER PAY-OFFS BETTER THAN THE ALASKANS THEMSELVES?

READ WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT PALIN BACK IN JULY. CALLING FOR HER RESIGNATION. THESE ARE SOME ANGRY PEOPLE!

Andrew, I'm not one of your regular readers, but someone sent me a link to your blog via email and I had a chance to read through this. If there is more to print, I encourage you to do so. We have to get the truth out before the coverup begins. I've heard several people online talk of going onto the State of Alaska website and saving documents on their harddrives for fear some of this stuff will be deleted when the shit hits the fan. Also maybe you can address the rumors of whether Palin is being vetted after the fact (as in after the announcement was made). This is also very disturbing. D

Mike Wooten - I understand how he must feel
Submitted by Tom Cleese (not verified) on Sun, 2008-08-31 19:56.
Mr. Halcro, Excellent article. I've been advised by someone of outstanding intergrity who is familiar with you that your word is straight up. I happened to be in Anchorage around July 16 when some of this testimony by Walt came out in the paper, and I was astonished, but certain it's true. Here's a guy who dedicated his life and career to public safety, and sounds like he had darn good plans for developing the department, when all of a sudden, BAM. He gets fired. Sounds real fishy to me. And, the poor guy Mike Wooten getting hosed by former wife, family, and SARAH, is something I personally empathize with. I've been dealing with a vengeful, insane ex-wife for over five years, and had to fight (successfully, thank God) false charges of just about everything that could be claimed, over and over again. IT'S REAL DISTURBING THAT SAHAH HAS BEEN TAPPED AS THE REPUBLICAN V.P. CANDIDATE WHILE THESE CHARGES ARE UNRESOLVED. IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THE ALASKA INVESTIGATION, IF McCAIN AND SARAH WIN THIS FALL, THE CONSEQUENCES SHE'LL RECEIVE WILL BE NIL. Some have said she'll be the "Teflon V.P." I hope not. Thank You, Tom Cleese

Trooper-Gate; People-Gate
Submitted by Robert Wales, PhD (not verified) on Fri, 2008-08-29 14:32.
While Guv. Palin has clearly abused her authority and this trooper sounds like a decent guy, welcome to the abuse-of-power cycle that is happening to so many decent people. Most of us do not have the benefit of being supported by their sargeant, their colonel and such. I am envious of that at least. Beyond that though, most of us get completely wiped out in divorce court, relieved of our possesions and stripped of a lifes work, we strive to continue albeit on a new low material plain. And, for some of us, we become awakened to a more important life. His was, and remains, an 'important case' in "family" court. For the rest of us, well, we are treated simply as inconvenience somewhere between lunch and dinner and treated as such by the judge by way of personal denigration, sneers, open threats and overt ridicule. Obviousy, I have been on the receiving end of what this trooper has endured; and worse, believe it or not. The wilder the claim; the more the percieved credibility. Judges want to be entertained, doing law is simply boring and ineffective. Everyone is reduced to being treated as a criminal;even if educated, tax filings since 18 years-old in-hand and not even so much as a speeding ticket, as was my case. Nevermind though, scorned woman + big lawyers get the judges attention. So, while I agree and actually like what I know of this trooper; remind me, why should I care again? We live in a society where the law is applied from the bottom up; not from the top down. Trooper Wooten doing what? DUI's on broke people struggling to calm the fears of their very existence by having a drink? I do not advocate drunk driving. But I know personally that having a drink can make the ground a little softer after you lose your home and find yourself sleeping in campsites. Trooper Wooten seems to have come upon this realization as well. Perhaps he started drinking after his divorce; I don't know for sure but it would make sense and who could blame him for being human. But, then again, did he not judge all of us as a Trooper, wrapped in a holier-than-though-costume dressed as though he was ready to invade Poland? How many people did he send to jail who were in a really bad place and simply just did'nt fit his penal code book? My experience is that any justice being dispensed in court is purely by accident. Trooper Wooten and Palin's over-reaching interferences are the reason why none of us can feel safe in this; our society of personal gain. A man could be forgiven for thinking these 'folks' are simply feeding upon themselves. Maybe that way we can get our democracy back; maybe.

Folks, we might not like it, but abuse of power is the way things are. Should they be different? YES. Will they change because of this? NO. While we all strive for a better government, one without abuses of power, hinging a dislike for a Governor on details of her personal life are naive and childish. ALL in power have skeletons in the proverbial closet. Why not concentrate on things that are important to the well-being of the state and end the tantrum over one guy getting fired unjustly. Get over it. Make your mark at the next election.

Question
Submitted by BWJ (not verified) on Mon, 2008-07-21 01:14.
Andrew. Why is it so many people cannot see the repeated "non-answers", the vague denials, and the endless doubletalk that Sarah and her people are spouting over the last week? There are literally too many instances to name, although I will highlight a few that haven't been hit on already. When asked about Monegan's assertions of being pressured, Todd Palin says "I don't recall" or "I don't remember", as does commissioner Kreitzer. These are not denials, they are non-committal responses. Col. Holloway, when asked if he told the governors office to back off of Wooten, "I cannot say". Darn right, because he still has his job and it would be unprofessional to say as long as he does, but that is not a no. Today Palin, after taking a week and finding nothing better, plagiarizes Commissioner Monegan's "Strategic Compass" and presents HIS priorities and ideas as her own. Some NEW direction! My favorite is her sound bite tonight on KTUU where she talks about the returning National Guardsmen who will need jobs. HELLO??? If one is in the National Guard it is because they already have a job. Remember "One weekend a month, 2 weeks a year" anyone? Those who are deployed in the guard already have a job which is, by federal law, guaranteed to be waiting for them upon their return from active duty. I would think someone with a child in the military and who is such a strong supporter of our military would know this already. I am a born again Palin supporter and now can see through the empty words and glossy smile. I only hope this episode will light the way for others out there as well.

I think you will find it hard to find a court room in the state of alaska that will mix up infidelity with your ability to be a parent. Palin's Abuse of Power
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 2008-07-18 14:01.
The messages on this blog seem to be concentrating on the issue with Trooper Wooten; however, I see some other truths in your message. "Walt Monegan got fired because he had the audacity to tell Governor Palin no, when apparently nobody is allowed to say no to Governor Palin." "According to the Legislative Finance Agency, the public safety budget in fy09 was cut by .06% while the governor's own budget increased 22.6%." Since she first took over many shady deals have taken place within the State system. She has appointed friends to exempt positions with no experience in the area they were working in. These people then proceed to run their Departments or Divisions as they see fit, promoting employees in the classified services promotions without a recruitment process, changing job duties at will (without rewriting job decsriptions), rewriting job descriptions that give some employee promotions to new positions and other employees the work they are supposed to be doing for the "new job". The atmosphere is such that employees cannot say anything about these problems without being punished in various suble and not so subtle ways. The Gov. is also expanding her Anchorage office by about 20 office spaces, requiring other state employees to move so her office can have more space. Someone should look into the turnover that happened in many departments. Look at the number of long term employees that left, look at the number of vacancies, look at how long it takes to fill vacancies. Morale among State employees is as low as I have ever seen it in over 20 years. Yet we recently got the following message requesting that we make suggestions on how to cut the budget. "From: Rehfeld, Karen J (GOV) Subject: $20 Million Savings Target Good Morning – I have received some feedback from legislators who are hearing from their constituents that we are “cutting the FY09 budget” and impacting services. In response, I explained the governor’s concern about managing the growth in the operating budget and her goal in setting the $20 million savings target. I let them know that we have asked agencies to see what we may be able to accomplish in savings in FY09 by managing those things we have control over, finding efficiencies, and implementing changes in business processes and practices that could ultimately result in some savings. We used 2.9% of GF personal services to establish the savings target so that departments would have a number to work toward, but we did not suggest that savings would have to come from personal services. We encourage departments to look at all line items for potential savings. We typically end up with a GF lapse at the end of the year without imposing any savings targets. We have NOT asked agencies to cut services or positions. We have suggested delaying the filling of vacant positions or reassigning work, if possible, to achieve some savings. " I am thinking that maybe Walt Monegan told her that her could not cut the budget further without cutting services. There are many other things happening that people are afraid to talk about because we need our jobs.

I believe this is an example of doing "evil ways" to good people who are humble to help our community. You have probably set an example for the situation (ie. divorce). This is a very bad situation to jump on because of your sister? Where is that support you can provide to this difficult family situation. You cannot just side your sister? What about your brother in law? He also need your support. Why are you thinking of firing him? Family issues were made state issues when the palin/heath family starting this persuit to get trooper wooten at all costs. If you cant see the proof that this was not wooten taking this from a family issue you are one confused citizen. This all did not come out from wooten, this came out from reports and tv people calling him. Reporters are saying he is saying no comment, you can find what you want in paperwork leave me and my children out of it. Also these things " tasering " "moosehunt " ALL happened years before the divorce and Mike was called "their night in shining armour " around the heath household, he had saved their little molly. So then he decideds to leave and now all this they have a problem with. Live in those shoes for a couple months and then say leave family issues in the family.

I do not know where you got the impression that Alaska Courts
Submitted by gcp (not verified) on Fri, 2008-07-18 12:23.
exercise some sort of preference for shared custody. Nothing could be further from the truth! However, until the laws are changed to make shared custody the norm, women like Molly McCann, my ex and all of the other women out there who put their childrens' needs last and carry out long-winded vendetta's against their ex-husbands will never be stopped. Women like that think of their children as trophies to be won, rather than seeing them as impressionable human beings who's childhood hurts will stay with them for a lifetime. Manipulation of custody schedules, calling cops not because they need them but because they can, withholding visits because they have some need to exercise "power" over another, frivolous claims in lawsuits, participating in illegal activities while married and blaming the other spouse for them after the divorce, all of these actions are clearly indicative of narcissistic behavior from people who really should not be raising children in the first place. The plain truth is that children should have equal and open access to both of their parents because these circumstances are the only hope that children of divorce have of living some resemblence of a "normal" life. Reading Mike Wooten's tale of woe has been almost like reading my own story lived by another man. Until the Legislature tells the Courts that fully shared custody (50/50 across the board, barring the presence of extreme extenuating circumstances)is to be the law in this State, women like Molly and my ex will continue to run roughshod over their families, creating emotional scars within their children that may never heal, and abusing expensive public resources in the process. I am fortunate that my "ever-lovin' ex" doesn't have access to Palin or her Cabinet, or I might be next on Governor Revenge's hit list. Then again, since she used to work with Leighow, I might receive a visit from our Governor or one of her misguided minions tonight! Sarah Palin needs to be impeached for abuse of power and she needs to go away now. The facts are down in black and white in the form of sworn Court documents and it is painfully clear that this person has NO business running our State. The Legislature needs to shoot down AGIA on Monday. Barring that they should table the discussion until the next session, while they determine how many lies have been shoved their direction on this issue by a Governor who is OBVIOUSLY challenged where telling the truth is concerned. Sarah lied in her public statement yesterday, she lied on the news last night and she has been caught lying to us regarding other issues of importance to our State. Sarah must either step down, or impeachment proceedings must be started immediately. Sarah Palin must be stopped from doing any further damage to our State. I plan to contact the entire Legislature today and strongly urge them to do two things: 1. Stop AGIA in it's tracks on Monday and, 2. Immediately put a Special Prosecutor with Subpoena powers in place to thoroughly investigate this ethically challenged Governor, so that we can have all of our i's dotted and t's crossed when we unceremoniously remove her lying ass from office.

Palin's Ludicrous Explanation
Submitted by Ralph Bald (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 21:39.
Governor Palin put in a written statement that she offered Commissioner Monegan the position at the ABC board so he could use his experience and energy to better effect the alcohol problems in western Alaska. What a crock!! ABC doesn't intercept bootlegging and illegal alcohol transport in the Bush, the Troopers do that. In fact, it is listed in their mission statement as one of the highest priorities. See the irony? Palin doesn't even recognize how off base her impromptu "justification" was, because she apparently doesn't even know the responsibilities and duties of various departments well enough to distinguish what ABC does (alcohol compliance for licensed establishments) and what AST does. She took Monegan AWAY from a position where he was causing to be done exactly what she claimed he should do if moved. She was about as prepared for this as Kopp was to answer questions about the sexual harassment allegations against him. On TV he looked like he swallowed a toad or something. It was really pathetic. Understand this, nothing in Kopp's experiences at the Kenai police department have prepared him to effectively serve as the Commissioner for the Department of Public Safety. He is way over his head on this one, and it will show. I just hope the public and the working Troopers don't have to suffer too much until this bad situation created by Palin gets fixed.

Tisk, Tisk, Tisk. Governor
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 21:39.
Tisk, Tisk, Tisk. Governor Palin and her family seem to be chastizing Officer Wooten for allegedly driving his trooper vehicle while intoxicated, yet is it possible that Governor Palin's brother Chuck Heath is the same person listed in the court records as having numerous DUI's. If that's her brother then I think the Palin/Heath family needs to back up and take a good look at themselves. Not that I condone anyone from driving while intoxicated, because I don't, however someone probably should look into that further. I would call that extremely hypocritical, should that be the case. After reading this blog I am thoroughly disgusted at Governor Palin and her family should these allegations be true. Using a public office to manipulate the system to be vindictive towards someone for a personal matter is outrageous. Furthermore, the Governor talks so highly about children and family, so unless there are some gross facts to consider about Officer Wooten and why he should not have equal custody, then the Governor and her family should practice what they preach. At this point, I tend to believe Governor Palin is not who she portrayed herself to be and if in fact she and her family have been harrassing Officer Wooten I would consider this just as sickening as the on-going Veco saga.

Who does this sort of thing to people. People fall in love people fall out of love , what kind of people think that they have the god given right to try and keep a father from his children. If all of the divorces were like this can you imagine how screwed up this world would be. Truth is hard to come by
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 20:21.
I can affirm several points in this...My husband has known about almost all of these issues and complained to me about them for many months. Reason I am not saying who, is exactly as stated. Palin is known among many as "The Wicked Witch of the North" and many fear her wrath and her families far-reaching wrath. Wooten is, I am sure, not perfect or completely "innocent". But I believe that he does not deserve the intrusion into his professional life, especially by way of wasting the publics resources or by way of illegally taking his secure work records. The State Troopers are, as Monegan stated, understaffed, overworked, have low moral, and are under appreciated and he was trying to bring them back to a portion of what they used to be. Palin has prejudice against the Troopers and because she cannot put her personal vendetta away long enough to be only governor, she is mixing the two. This scares me as a citizen not under APD's jurisdiction. I have heard that the Troopers are so overstretched, that the public is paying for it. I have been very disappointed in her as a governor, in her decisions and reasons for them. Many of those who can speak out against her, are unfortunately, "under" her and have their families and livelihoods to think about. Truth be told, I would like to hear her side of the story. I would like to know why she made her decisions, what caused her to fire Monegan, why she avoids certain issues, and what was the huge stink that caused her to take off the gauntlets when dealing with Wooten. But there has been nothing from her side...curious that.

Dear Legislature, Our financial future is in your hands. Stand up and question EVERYTHING. Paying TransCanada to do business with our state...where did that idea come from? Oh, the Palin administration. From the Anchorage Daily News 12/13/07: "Rutherford had worked as a Juneau lobbyist for TransCanada's pipeline subsidiary, Foothills, and made $40,200. Today Rutherford heads Palin's gas pipeline team. Palin said this week she knows about Rutherford's work for Foothills and doesn't believe it is a conflict of interest. "Going on five years later, no," Palin said." A conflict of interest is a situation in which someone in a position of trust, such as a lawyer, insurance adjuster, a politician, executive or director of a corporation or a medical research scientist or physician, has competing professional or personal interests. Such competing interests can make it difficult to fulfill his or her duties impartially. A conflict of interest exists even if no unethical or improper act results from it. A conflict of interest can create an appearance of impropriety that can undermine confidence in the person, profession, or court system. A conflict can be mitigated by third party verification or third party evaluation noted...—but it still exists. -Wikipedia Conflict of interest for Sarah Palin appears to be that which conflicts with her interests. Political irony to be used........
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 19:03.
It is ironic that Palin used the indictments and investigations in masterful manipulation to get in office and then pillage a third party, the oil company shareholders, when they were not even involved. The resulting punitive tax increase and this AGIA nonsense now threatens our economic future. Hopefully the legislators will use this "family affair" and the unfortunate firing of Mr. Monigan, which will surely and rapidly decrease Palin's popularity, as an opportunity to show a little backbone and shove this half billion dollar dead end called AGIA back in her face. The irony will be complete.....a factually unrelated event determining an outcome. Reminds me of Spitzer in New York with his self righteous, arrogant, my way or the highway attitude. Enough already....time for a little political poetic justice.

The first was Andrew Niemiec, a DOT executive who was arrested on the Parks Highway in late 2006, highly intoxicated (blew .22 hours after the arrest!), but more importantly assaulted the female state trooper on the scene by kicking her in the groin, and calling her a foul female specific expletive. All documented in the Fairbanks paper. But a few months after this arrest, which resulted in his dismissal by the Murkowski administration, he was hired by Palin to be executive director of the Knik Arm Bridge authority! Hard to believe but TRUE. Now Mr. Kopp, who begins his state career defending the indefensible. But here is the common thread. Both are younger men, her generation, and both are well above average in the looks department. In other words, in her mind, age and looks trump other faults. Palin herself is a looker and works hard to maintain it. It obviously motivates her. One last observation. Her policy on letting retired state employees, fill badly needed vacancies is growing increasingly hostile. No matter the value, and the difficulty filling posts from the normal recruitment pools, the answer is now generally no to such requests. She is openly hostile to people older than herself. Some agencies simply can no longer find viable candidates. This doesn't matter, to Palin who continues to squash every attempt to retain departing employees and the skills and knowledge they can continue to provide.

Andrew Niemiec
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 2008-07-18 11:30.
I too could not believe that Niemiec was given another position by Palin. But there is even more to that story than you gave. Niemiec was the Northern Region Director of DOT under Murkowski. This incident took place shortly after Palin was elected but prior to her being sworn in and word was that Niemiec was Palin's choice for Commissioner of DOT. Niemiec was driving from Anchorage to Fairbanks. He was driving erratically and almost collided head on with oncoming traffic. Niemiec then struck a (DOT maintained) guardrail and went off of the road. A male Trooper responded from Fairbanks and contacted Niemiec and a witness. The Trooper determined that Niemiec was obviously intoxicated after he failed Field Sobriety Tests. The Trooper attempted to place Niemiec under arrest. Niemiec refused to comply with the Trooper's orders and elbowed the Trooper in the face. The Trooper and Niemiec ended up in a ground fight in the middle of no where on the Parks Highway in well below freezing weather. Niemiec attempted to get his arm around the Trooper's neck a number of times and repeatedly knee'd the Trooper in the ribs. The Trooper and two bystanders ended up fighting with Niemiec. The male Trooper got the handcuffs on Niemiec at which time Niemiec became very obscene and screamed that he works for the Governor and he was going to have the Trooper fired. The female Trooper then showed up and was assaulted by Niemiec as she was helping put him in the patrol car. Niemiec was charged with DUI,Resisting Arrest, and 2 counts of Assaulting a Trooper. Of course the District Attorney dropped the assault charges because assault on a police officer carries a minimum of 60 days in jail on each count. Niemiec was allowed to resign and then was give the new position by Palin. Where is the Governor's support of her Troopers there? Palin is all about her cronies and not about integrity.

Jail guards hate their commissioner so much, they did an overwhelming vote of "No Confidence". Does Governor Palin do anything about it? No. Troopers admired and respected their commissioner tremendously and what does the Governor do? Fires him. Go figure.

Whatt's her power over people?
Submitted by lowandslow (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 18:18.
Allow me (non Alaskan) to ramble on for a minute. After Palin's name started being tossed around the blogisphere I did what every informed citizen does, I googled her name to get a little background on her. What I found was a little puzzling, first I came across the Alaskan oil production tax rate story and thought, "well that's kind of the opposite of political conservatism?". A little more research got me reading about the dairy fiasco then AGIA (which lead me to this blog) and I came to the conclusion that she wasn't really a viable candidate for VP. That took all of an hour I guess. Yet I wondered "why is she so popular?" I could see how her tax bill oil policies would be a popular position in the state but not as big as her numbers were. That's when I realized she must possess something in her personality that she has that much power over people. As timed passed and her name came up more frequently on the blogs the mindless cheerleading for her was (and still is) ludicrous so I started offering some criticism on her actual polices, nothing personal mind you, and I was and still get just ripped apart. These are people that know absolutely nothing about her politics yet would go to any length to defend her. What's with that? How does she do that? What is it with her and this power she has over some people? Which brings us to this post. After reading about the Wooten's I have to wonder how much power Palin has over even her sister. I've had a sister that went through a divorce, most people have had someone close to them go though it and there's always bitterness and a reaction to get revenge but most people do their best to discourage those instincts in someone you care about as they're nothing but destructive to everyone involved. Granted I know nothing about anyone involved but it seems to me Palin did just the opposite, she didn't help her sister, she's done nothing but exasperate the pain in the Wooten family. Again, I believe it comes back to the power this woman has over people, this time her family. The damage this woman leaves in her wake is astounding yet people will jump to her defense. Mind boggling the power she has over people.

Power and family
Submitted by scott (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 19:49.
I have thought about not reponding to this, but since you comment on her power over her family, I must say the following (from personal experience); The Governors sister is much the same as the Governor without the position of power. She too, is vindictive and seemingly stuck in high school drama land. I will not comment on the divorce, as I was not there, but if her interactions with those she associates herself with are any indication, her ex-husband, (Officer Wooten) got out for good reason. Unfortunately for him, the Governor is in a position to "stick it to him" and he now has to defend his honor and his family in the public spotlight. This is as bad an abuse of power and pattern of abuse as there is in this type of venue, and it is unfortunate Wooten has to go to battle again, but I hope he knows he has friends and being sided with Walt Monegan is a great place to be.

These poor children are screwed. I do not know how many people in the valley or even around the state have heard Molly McMcann say " DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM, I AM THE GOVERNORS SISTER " OR " THIS IS THE GOVERNORS NEPHEW " Yeah and SO who cares, nothing like living on a shirts tail.

Andrew, if any of this is true, then Palin should be empeached, unless she resigns. If you are making this up then you should remove yourself from the public eye. You appear to have evidence. It should be given to the appropriate body and either criminal charges (if appropriate) or empeachment charges should be brought against her. If these charges are true, then what she has done makes what Randy Rudrick did look like a jay walking ticket vs a hit and run.

"reding" the documents
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 2008-07-18 08:25.
You are absolutely correct. I had not "red" all the documents before I started running my mouth. I took the effort to print out all 33 pages of Document 3 in order to confirm your allegations. What I found out was Payton is considered an "adrenaline junky" who insisted on being tasered by Wooten. Payton's mother was upstairs calling down to her son "not to do it". Molly McCann knew Payton and Bristol were downstairs with Wooten, and knew that Wooten was going to give Payton a quick shock with a training cartridge. On page 16 of Document 3: "Bristol stated that Payton volunteered to be tased, and that Mike had offered to see if she wanted to try also. Bristol refused stating that she was scared. Bristol was also asked why she waited so long and brought the incident up after two years. She then stated 'because of the divorce and stuff.' Bristol further advised that she just learned that the Taser has killed a lot of people while researching it with her mom." Other responses to this allegation include persons who claim to have heard Payton bragging about his being Tasered. If Molly McCann was so worried about her son being tasered by Wooten, why was she upstairs giving her other children a bath? Why wasn't she on the phone calling for help? I wonder when Sarah and Bristol did their research on the Taser? The drama is in the documents!

Palin's misuse of power

What a loss for all of us. A governor we thought was different. Turns out she's WORSE than those she went after. I am ashamed to have voted for her after learning what vindictiveness and dishonesty she participated in going after her ex-brother-in-law and using her office to try and get him fired. Good lord. All divorces are messy. And in really bad movies about red necks we watch the crazy family members "go after" the honest hard-working dad and try to ruin his career. But in real life? And involving our GOVERNOR? And involving the lives of ALL OF US when she fires our DPS commissioner and hires a crony? This is politics as usual. She was supposed to be better than that. (Was Ben Stevens was talking about the Palin family when he trashed Valley residents? That would make his famous comment almost forgivable) Go back to the bar room brawls Sarah. That's the only place for behavior like yours.

So What is Your Motive, Andrew?

You indicate that your "story" comes from court docs and those close to one-side of the situation. Yet, your story is so full of inuendo and assumptions, that you would have the public believe it's the only side of the story. Do me a favor Andrew. Re-write your 'story', and every place you have Palin's name, replace with your own. How's that strike you. We live in a time & place where any idiot can say or write anything. And, because he/she quotes enough "credible sources", can have someone believing anything. How about you provide some real information as to "credible sources." If the published reports about the Trooper are correct, in that he used a tasor on his step-son, well then - I guess that's just one convenient thing we forgot to mention. And, if there's at least one, we can probably ASS-ume there are more. Your vile and repulsive arrogance is beginning to wear on many of us. I really hope you find a valuable function for your spare time. I only wish I had the time to spout anything that I found vaguely offensive, about you, to anyone who would listen. Tell me Andrew, how is your story any different than the past year and a half, if I use your name in place of Palin's and her name in place of the Trooper's. Oh, my gosh.... sounds so familiar doesn't it!!!! And we had no idea that your investigative skills were so overwhelmingly superior to those of your management skills of a car rental agency. Best of luck with your new career.

Andrew's Response:

I stand by my story and the documents released today prove it.

I'm disgusted that she didn't have the stones to fire Walt to his face - but how telling is that? How telling that she's all for transparency until we're asking HER to be transparent?! I'll tell you what....if this new commissioner (who comes off as a major sleeze bag - he reminds me of Vic Kohring) fires Holloway....there'd better be a whole big comeuppance in Sarah's direction because Walt and Audie were/are the BEST thing to happen to AST in MANY years! I hope that if she in fact asked Walt to fire Trooper Wooten that Walt comes forward. He has nothing to lose. And this lame sound bite from Sarah that Walt could better serve the State as the Commissioner of ABC and that alcohol is a serious problem in the Bush and that's the "new" direction she wants to take? She's full of crap. Alcohol problems in the Bush will always be a problem. God help Trooper Wooten? God help our Alaska State Troopers. She's a liar. And I'm SO done with you, Sarah Palin. I never thought I'd say this, but you're worse than *gulp* Frank Murkowski. Let's see: You're screwing us out of a pipeline deal; you're putting your friends or people you can intimidate or have no brain of their own in positions of power (high school buddy Joe Schmidt, etc.); you lie about budget cuts....yeah Sarah....you're transparent alright.

Budget Issues
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 16:55.
While the "juicy" part of this story is the possibility of impropriety on the Governors part. I see the underlying, much overlooked issue here being the first part of the article, the budget issues. As I and many others have been crying for months, Alaska is NOT SAFE. As Mr. Cyr wrote in his ADN compass piece recently, Alaska is and has been #1 in forcible rape; we are #3 in assaults and #1 in Alcohol related assaults. Alaska is ranked the 2nd most dangerous place to raise a child IN THE NATION. This should shock and offend every good citizen of this state! The governor speaks now of improving recruitment and retention of State Troopers, yet just months ago, during Trooper contract negotiations, it was the Troopers who were begging the state to make their jobs more attractive so they could improve recruitment and retention, and the governor and her negotiators ignored them. Commissioner Krietzer of the DOA told Mr. Cyr, to his face, that if Troopers didn't like their jobs, they could quit and if that left vacancies then so be it! Does this sound like an administration that fully supports public safety and its Troopers to you? That doesn't sound like someone who wants to "improve recruitment and retention" to me. They might as well have said; "If your daughter is raped or your son assaulted because there were shortages of Troopers, so be it." Alaska is becoming one of the most dangerous states in the country and Mr. Monegan knew it, but Sarah didn't want to hear it. I believe this is just as important as her treatment of Trooper Wooten.

Palin owes explanation in firing of Walt Monegan, By John Cyr "The governor must be aware of the abysmal crime statistics in Alaska. She ran her campaign on a platform of public safety. Recruitment and Retention

The only way to improve recruitment and retention without lowering our standards is to increase incentives for new recruits as well as those already serving as Troopers. The State is flush with cash, the Governor is willing to give each of us a check for $1200, yet we can't afford to provide a decent wage for our men and women who put their lives on the line every day so the rest of us can sleep peacefully at night? To All Troopers: Thank you for the sacrifices made by you and your families so that Alaska can remain a great place to live. Thank you for your courage. You are men and women of honor. Please, be safe always! To All Alaskans: Write and call your legislators. Demand that they fully fund the Division of Alaska State Troopers. Ultimately, our lives depend on it!

I am an optimist by nature, but must admit that this is taxing my optimism. I love the ideals of honor, integrity, and service that this career contains. I hope that the future family of my fellow Alaskans can get this straightened out before I commit to relocate myself and my family. Let me know that my optimism is not misplaced.

My name is John Wooten and I am Trooper Wooten's older brother. I have been a Firefighter/Paramedic for over 15 years and I have never seen a public saftey officer treated in such a crude and disrespectful manner by an elected official. My brother is an honorable man who loves his children, family, State and most of all being a Trooper. Mike may get mad at me for writing this but somebody needs to let his feelings be heard here. I have spent many hours on the phone with my brother since all of the harrassment started from the Gov and her family, a family whom once told me Mike was the best thing that ever happened to them. I guess what they meant was, he was the best thing that happened to them as long as he stayed married to Molly. My brother was very proud of becoming an Alaska Trooper and he is very good at it. However, recently Mike has been considering quitting his job with the Troopers because of all the harrassment and complaints against him by the Palin/Heath families. While he has no other job prospects he is still thinking of quitting so the harrassment will stop. I think if that happened the citizens of Alaska would lose a true asset and protector. My brother is a hard working man who loves his children with all his heart. He is the kind of father most men only wish they could be. You should see him with those kids. They love him and he loves them. This is not fair to him or them. I am thankful this story is finally being publicized and the truth may finally become public. I love my brother and I am very proud of him. I support him all the way with what ever decision he makes. I thank you for all of your comments and support for Trooper Wooten. I DID NOT VOTE for Palin and for many other reasons, will not vote for her in the future. I pray for Trooper Wooten. Personally, of all the times I've ever been pulled over (I'm notorious for expired tags), it was always the Troopers that were real gentlemen and officers. The firing of DPS Commissioner Monegan
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 15:13.
One of my great friends was dealt an unkindly, unfair and un-Christian blow on Friday. I learned of Walt's situation on Friday while I was in the hospital for surgery. This commissioner was the only commissioner I have ever met that truly was in the corner for his employees and the people of the state he served. He was unpretentious and definitely not self-serving. He is the epitomy of what a great leader should be. He reserved comment until all the facts were in and all sides were represented. He put excellent men and women around him to ensure total support first for DPS employees, second the citizens of the State of Alaska and then only if it was right, for politicians. My stock in Governor Sarah just dropped dramatically. It went from a Blue Chip winner to penny stock in a matter of hours as details began unfolding. Divorces are never amicable (regardless of who, what or why they occur) so to pass judgment on Trooper Wooter to me begs the question of why the best DPS Commissioner would be dealt a blow like this. Only one word really describes the situation without being vulgar and that word is DISGUSTING.

Andrew, In Palin's denial, she stated something to the effect that neither she nor her family are in receipt of any of Trooper Wooten's file. You stated that it was released to his ex-wife and her attorney. Is there some way to prove receipt by her family? I think that would go a long way towards eroding the substance of her denial. Also, I just heard you on the Fagan show, and he mentioned that Walt Monegan is the key to this and that he needs to speak out. I think his silence speaks volumes. Being the classy man that he is, if this were untrue, I think that he'd come forward and say so.

I happen to know people who have been impacted by Chuck Kopp and his doings in Kenai, so along with Sarah Palin's travesty against Walt Monaghan and Trooper Wooten I have reason to believe that Kopps' appointment is an equal gaffe! I hope that the truth can be substantiated and shared with the public some how, some way. I didn't vote for Palin, but had begun to be won over by her "open and transparent" speeches. I am apalled at her less than honest, possibly criminal behavior at this juncture! I hope that all this gets sorted out in a way that leaves Alaska better off and restores Mr. Monaghan and stops all the madness with Trooper Wooten!

Koppo in Kenai
Submitted by politico (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 14:41.
If you want an honest opinion about Koppo, then go to Kenai and ask people who have lived there a very long time. The entire city government has condoned Kopps type of behavior since they were incorporated. This is not the first scandal, but what will happen if he goes back to Kenai. Nothing will get better in that small little town. As far as what has happened with Wooten, I would suspect he already has a lawsuit on his hands. Personnel issues are confidential, the same as they are in Kenai and what Kopp did there. The people involved are scared enough to be getting counsel today. There are much more serious crimes buried in that small town every year. Mike Wooten, call an employment lawyer, a good one. Then file suit in Federal Court it can only get better for you. The State already owes you an apology, and now maybe a "confidential off the record settlement".

Glad to see that you took the time to put together an informative piece. I always felt Palin was a vindictive, power hungry woman. Popularity is her game, now it will be her shame. I wonder if Hickel had his chest pains because of his support of this psycho woman? I would feel like an idiot too if had supported her. A lot of Palin lovers who won't admit to the truth will be gunning for you after this, watch out! Great piece! That VP spot was never a reality for her anyway.

Governor Sarah Palin it is time for a full confession, an apology and your resignation. Because you have claimed to be a Christian, you have brought shame on the Church. You have deceived many. Did you think you could sow and not reap? Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Pride comes before the fall. The time for buying favor is over. The declared war on industry is over. The time of hypocritical accusations is over. The legislature will no longer cower in fear as the people of Alaska do have a backbone and we will talk with our votes. You had your opportunity to lead, but you chose a selfish path. The path that leads to desolation. That is not the path for this great state. Alaska needs new energy, new direction and a new governor. We need a new administration that are not yes-men, but people of pricnciple and integrity. You have come face-to-face with your own abuses and double standards. There is forgiveness and there are consequences. One is available for free if you seek it. The other is certain regardless. I am ready to forgive, but not again trust as trust is earned. Rumor is that you cut a deal with liberals for a yes vote on AGIA and Transcanada. Will we see the cost of your behind the scenes deal in the next special session? Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a {wo}man, if {s}he shall gain the whole world, and lose his{her} own soul?

Monegan's Replacement
Submitted by Victor Ratz (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 14:12.
"Palin needed to replace Monegan with someone who would be seen but not heard while doing the governor's bidding." This statement is accurate. Sarah hired herself a "Yes" man as was clearly evedenced at his press meeting while he sweated bullets. His Freduian Muzzle was clearly visible as pointed questions that should have been calmly handled by a strong leader were clumsily sidestepped. Strong leaders require strong advisors and heads of departments to both support solid strategies as well as question and advise the Governor when their plans seem flawed. Great leaders hire great people because they need them, not because they present nice window treatments. Clearly Monegan, who I consider to be a good man of solid character and a real leader with his finger on the pulse of law enforcement, was such a leader she, we, needed. Sarah's immaturity, lack of leadership and shallow policy decisions have started us down a road to certain fiscal and infrastructrual failure. Commissioners
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 13:15.
What a contrast. A Commissioner of DPS who sticks up for Public Safety and Officer Safety even though an uninformed Governor focuses only on the budget...a Commissioner who did not grow up and go to school with the Governor...a Commissioner who would not allow a good officer to be railroaded for trumped up vindictive reasons by the Governor... a Commissioner who is now replaced with someone with little or no large police force experience, who grew up with the Governor and who it appears will do her bidding. Contrast this to the Commissioner of DOC who seems not to care about his officer's safety, nor that of the inmates in their custody. A commissioner who grew up with the Governor...one who will not stick up for his officers...a Commissioner with no long range plan! Pray for Walt Monegan and public safety and pray for the safety. Good Job Wald...Godspeed! Pray for the safety of those still being mismanaged by the Commissioner who wasn't fired, pray for Alaska's Correctional Officers and the inmates crowded into their custody. Having had friends in similar situations on both sides, it is frightening how what is written fits a pattern seen all too many times. The sad part is how a governor is involved in this. The only good that may come of this is that the Trooper may be in line for a hell of a civil suit. Too bad that Taxpayers will pick up the tab. One question I have is why haven't the troopers called in an outside agency to look into this? I am not sure what the truth is but if the governor is abusing her office I will not stand for it and I will not support her. There are always 2 sides to every story but it is the governor's own fault for this perception due to the way she fired Commissioner Monegan. I think she owes us an answer and I think we need to watch things very closely. Perhaps she thought we were so smitten with her that we would never question her? I will always question my leaders if they cross an integrity line. No one will ride for free. I'm a pretty loyal guy but I demand things to be fair.

Ah, the good old days. Days when a governor would be disliked for buying a jet, working to get our natural resources developed, days when the guy in charge didn't care what the ADN or KTUU thought of what he did. No. Now it's better. Now it's, "Do as I say but not as I do". Now, open and transparent means shut up and obey orders. Is anyone buying this crap? Anyone. Oh, when we discuss AGIA, it's different. It's not different. The good Gov's attitude is a pattern, a pattern of draconian control that old school Chicago politics would be proud of. Shame on all of you, who write in and accuse Mr. Halcro, a guy who makes a good buck owning his own business, of sour grapes, being a shill for big oil, etc. etc. etc. His message has been clear, his facts double checked, and he has not hidden behind some fake curtain to post his findings. Many have worked hard to marginalize those who have voiced concerns about the Sarah, but now, now, we learn the truth. The truth about her crafted message, the truth about how she views the limits of her power, and the truth about the fate of those who have seen past the fake exterior. More voices need to come foreword. Voices of those who worked to get her elected, and have since moved away from her. For 19 months she's asked the questions, now it's our turn. If Palin told Commissioner Monegan to fire Wooten because he was giving Troopers a bad name and Monegan said he would do no such thing and then was fired, this sounds like it is exactly what the judge was giving a warning on. Great article Andrew. You've really hit the wasps nest this time. Too bad you have to do all of the investigative reporting for all the news agencies in this Palin cheerleading town.

This governor has obviously forgotten that POWER is made up of three things that must always be in balance: Authority, Responsibility AND Accountability. That omits doing what one can get away with just because of their position. Honesty, truth, and a sterling position on all things must be the focus. That way when one makes an'honest human mistake' the general character and record of the individual will cary them through those mistakes. Palins 'record' of spitefulness and misuse of her powers as our governor are much too evident to be brushed aside in any event. The picture is 'clear',,,,what is seen through the looking glass is very ugly.

So sickened by Palin's scary, vindictive behavior
Submitted by G. McLeod (not verified) on Thu, 2008-07-17 13:48.
I feel so completely betrayed by Governor Palin. I cheered her crusade against politicians who used the power of their offices to accomplish personal goals. I donated time to help finally get an honest, altruistic politician in office committed solely to doing the right thing-- and ushering in a transparent, honest approach to government. What an uninformed fool I have been. After taking the time to personally read the court transcripts referred to in the article about Monegan's dismissal, I am sickened and deeply offended by the shocking behaviour and vindictiveness that I can only describe as hard core cruelty lacking any Christian values and morals. No matter WHAT the poor trooper ex-husband of Palin's sister did to initiate the divorce, what matters is Palin's reaction and response. Her fanatic (scary) vindictiveness and inability to rise above the situation and take the high road is unhealthy and extremely un-Christian. It also sounds like it should be illegal! She had chosen to relentlessly crucify a public servant, has replaced a wonderful public servant (Monegan) who showed great integrity in REFUSING to fire the trooper, and has replaced Monegan with a man with sleazy reputation who clearly does not value women. These decisions to accommodate her personal vendetta affect ALL of us. It's shocking that she can legally be allowed to do so much damage without consequences. I am truly sickened. My daughter once asked what "valley trash" meant after Ben Stevens made his so publicly tacky comment. I had a tough time answering her, and was ashamed that she had to hear such a term. I tried to explain that it came from "white trash", a term used to describe small minded, cruel people who took pleasure in terrorizing others, wallowing in revengeful behaviour, and taking pleasure in the pain of other people. I told her these people did not know any better, and asked her to pray for them. I'll pray for Governor Palin after I've said my prayers for the victims of her behaviour. Finally, I cannot help but wonder: Why can't the governor be charged with a crime for misuse of color of authority/abuse of the power of the office? Or at least be held personally and civilly liable for the damages she's inflicting in the personal lives of those whose careers she has illegally interfered with? G. McLeod

Brilliant Andrew! Thank you!!! Sarah Palin is done on the national front. The dems will make coleslaw with this. Now it is time for a wake-up call for Alaskans. I am so glad I don’t have the shame of having voted for this governor. Hmmmmmmm 1) Our legislature so fearful of being painted with the VECO scandal – no concern about cooperating with Palin (taxes, AGIA, TCAK) and being painted with this brush? 2) This activity is every bit as disgusting as the corruption that has landed some legislators in prison. 3) Legislators should defer the vote on TransCanada as this activity should bring into question the credibility of the entire administration. 4) Perhaps others will have the boldness to come forward now – let's hear about the other abuses of power from the Valley-days – trying to acquire state land for friends and family at borough appraised value – threats to those who would not play (only rumors at this point – please come forward MHT) 5) If this governor has broken the law, she should be prosecuted – assuming the DA from the valley is not conflicted as well 6) Should we be concerned about other commissioners she is happy with? Ready to help with impeachment if this is an impeachable offense

This is not a first for Palin. Haven't you heard about her violation of the Ethics Act by using state funds to pay for her children and husband's travel expenses to follow her around....specifically Piper's travel to Barrow last month?

Nothing surprises me anymore

Unfortunately, with this Governor and Administration nothing surprises me anymore. It's the Alaskan people that are paying for it and losing good people in our Administration and other sectors. I feel for Mike Wooten. I have a family member that's a Correction's Officer and they are battling to keep themselves safe with the outbreak of MRSA. Her Commissioner advised that there are only a couple cases - it will be interesting to hear the truth after an investigation. Heaven forbid anyone speak up, they'll probably be fired.

Follow the threads of evidence Andrew

Now that evidence of a Palin/Heath team effort of bullying has been revealed it is time to revisit the collected evidence of how Sen. President Lyda Green was subjected to similar bullying tactics at the hands of these same people as well as others not disclosed as yet. Yes, Sen. Green decided not seek re-election because of declining popularity in her district. However, I have always contended that the low poll numbers were on the most part the "ends" to the "means" of how they got there. I have contended as I do now that the continual and unilateral and negative focus and dialog thrust upon Sen. Green by the same parties now in question contributed to her decision to step away. Andrew it is now time to "connect other dots" of evidence so to speak for the good of all Alaska. Sen. Green, Walt Monegan, and we all deserve better.

Shocked and dismayed.....

Andrew, thankfully my husband is a physician, because as we were reading this I stopped breathing....no kidding. My husband had to smack me on the back to get me going again. So how does a healthy, fit woman stop breathing? By reading this article. Seriously, this situation is so compelling it takes your breath away. I got so wrapped up in this I forgot to breathe. Something needs to be done about this. I think each and everyone of us reading this needs to contact the ADN this morning and INSIST that they follow-up on this. I may contact KTUU, KTVA, and the others as well. Now we know what Todd does with his "free time". Busy raising his children? No, following Trooper Wooten around. Wonder if he is getting paid to do it. This is almost a Dateline NBC sort of story. I too plan to contact the McCain headquarters. Andrew, I have McCain's backline unpublished email address, can I post it here?

Andrew's Response:

Feel free.

[email protected] I will call this morning and check to make sure this has not changed from a month or so ago, or if I'm able to get any more email addresses.

Todd Palin and Hillary Clinton

If Hillary Clinton did half of what you allege Todd Palin did- like if she had sent pictures to the FBI to enlist them in some personal crusade- the Palinistas would be frothing at the mouth. Is anyone sending the documentation to KTUU, ADN, the AG's office with a complaint requesting an independent investigation, etc?

Andrew: Do you think a story outlining Palin's lack of support for public safety, and apparent abuse of office in the family attempt to remove Trooper Wooten, helps or hinders Palin's chances of becoming McCain's running mate? I just sent your piece to the McCain campaign to find out. Hopefully other readers who see the leadership qualities exemplified in the story will do the same. No wonder we now have Gropergate.

Andrew's Response:

Honestly, I think if people could hear the entire story of what has actually happened the last four years, and the blatant abuse of power, Palin might be done politically forever.

Even after sifting through court documents and Trooper reports, there was still some stuff I couldn't print because I didn't have time to verify it...but I don't doubt are true.

I don't give a shit about McCain, Palin, Obama, or Biden. I want to shed light on the Truths.

Apparently no one thinks this is important.

Shows the ignorance and complacency of this sad sad country and state of affairs today.
