That was interesting. Thanks for sharing it. A client who was a neuropsychologist I think, once told me that schizophrenia is viewed differently in the Indian (east) culture. Don't quote me on this exactly, but he said that they were regarded as highly spiritual...

that was lame. my mind could do better than that! it should at least be some kind of convincing scenario, delusions which are actually tangible for the person.. not just "the weather is out to get you...hoooo-harrrrr!!"

maybe the creators mite like to take some datura, or maybe just a high dose of acid in a really stressful and uncomfortable setting and get some insight into how the mind can play tricks on you..

i mean seriously.. if you have no experience, don't pretend like you what its like to go insane. i don't know either, but i've gotten pretty fucking close! hf

Yah as a matter of fact it comes and goes with a lot of them.

Remember like they said that there are no two cases alike.

Most the time this is a degenerative disorder/ Is seems to be a biological process and things can set it off like an actual infection in the brain.

To actually live with a person that has it- And watch them go from an intelligent responsive person into something that seems completely alien in a matter of weeks is weird to watch and experience.

Because I have experienced it first hand, I have sympathy and even a lot of humor about it.

I know most can actually carry on a distinct and clear conversation, if gently coaxed in the proper manner.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Thats where the humor comes in , because most of them get "the joke" after a while if ya treat them with care and love.

Some of the funnest people I have ever been around in my life. --every thing is drama..:)

We all have, I think these are just natural functions that get completely out of hand.

All depends on the personality.

Where in lies the humor.

That is why I enjoy peoples personalities so much.

I can think of a couple around here since I have been here.

Sam Danner

Zakk/Simon

-----this morning, Each one is special and I enjoy their company.

I enjoy getting them to come out of their shell and talk about whats going on.....

And that whole side note of being spiritually blessed / just may be true/ they don't have the same associations with reality. They have the release from reality that we all wish we could get for a few moments some time.

Yet, they pay a price for that knowledge.

Re: Experience Schizophrenia. First Hand.
Toxoplasma Infection Increases Risk Of Schizophrenia, Study Suggests
ScienceDaily (Jan. 18, 2008) — Findings from what is believed to be the largest comparison of blood samples collected from healthy individuals and people with schizophrenia suggest that infection with the common Toxoplasma gondii parasite, carried by cats and farm animals, may increase the risk of schizophrenia.

Researchers found that of the 180 study subjects diagnosed with schizophrenia, 7 percent had been infected with toxoplasma prior to their diagnosis, compared to 5 percent among the 532 healthy recruits. Thus, people exposed to toxoplasma had a 24 percent higher risk of developing schizophrenia. The difference, while seemingly small, is important, researchers say, because the ability to explain even a small portion of the 2 million cases of schizophrenia in the United States may offer clues to the disease and some possible treatments.

For example, the investigators say they plan to study whether aggressive treatment of toxoplasma infection with antiparasitic drugs in patients with schizophrenia could halt the progression of the mental disorder, characterized by paranoia, delusions and hallucinations.

Most infections with toxoplasma occur early in life following exposure to the parasite in cat feces or undercooked beef or pork. Infections rarely cause symptoms, but the parasite remains in the body and can reactivate after lying dormant for years.

A report on the study, conducted among U.S. military personnel by researchers from Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and Johns Hopkins Children’s Center appears in the January issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry.

“Our findings reveal the strongest association we’ve seen yet between infection with this very common parasite and the subsequent development of schizophrenia,” says Robert Yolken, M. D., a neurovirologist at Hopkins Children’s who was among those conducting the analysis.

Previous studies have reported on the link between schizophrenia and the presence of toxoplasma antibodies, which are evidence of past infection, but this is the first study to show that infection with the parasite can precede the initial onset of symptoms and subsequent diagnosis with schizophrenia, Yolken says.

Because the U.S. military routinely tests its active personnel for toxoplasma, among other infectious agents, and stores blood samples in a central repository, researchers were able to determine the time line between infection and a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

“Until now, the only thing we could say is that some people with schizophrenia also had been infected with toxoplasma at some point, but we couldn’t tease out which came first,” Yolken says. “With our current study, we were able to show that infection came first.”

While most people infected with toxoplasma never develop schizophrenia, the parasite may be a trigger in those genetically predisposed to the disorder, a classic example of how genes and environment come together in the development of disease, Yolken says

Its fine Sara...

Anything could be the cause, I make no subjective reasoning on the causes,I am more concerned with the application.

I have a particular empathy for any person that is subject to it. Whether the person afflicted or the family members/friends.

and we know the "medicine"
Can make it worse or just knock them out.

I hoped whoever got to see it you enjoyed it also, thats what it was for.

Have sympathy for some of the people around here.(that is to the other GLP posters not you Sara)

You would be surprised what they can show you.

I saw that video. I'm basically in and out of belief that I have schizophrenia. I try being religious because my delusion is religious. I am the fucking antichrist I'm told by this asshole who won't stop bugging me, or I'm a woman, or I'm this or that. Initially I was being persecuted by the fucking government. Religion seems to help at the start then I end up talking shit about one religion or the other and don't get any cure. I am fairly certain I am making the right decision now with christianity but it is a reaction to the fact that what I'll call now psychosis told me it was Allah. I am very mad at it and don't know what to do. I would kill myself but that would only land me in hell for crying out loud! I think that video is somewhat accurate but I don't believe in meds, ESPECIALLY RISPERDAL!!! THey don't cure it or even help much. Haldol gavee me tardive dyskinesia, abilify makes me vomit, they're garbage! At least I haven't been ect'd yet! Fuck this persecutory beast that has me at its mercy. Fuck this thing that keeps telling me I'm this or that. Let's all get around this "SATAN" and slash it and curse it before it grabs another person.

You see, the trouble with this "disease" is that it always seems so probable that what is telling you is true, it is a very powerful force that obliges you to believe it based on its "authority" There is no way to tell if it is wrong when you have it first hand, no way to say it is BS. I mean if you think God is talking to you what right do you have to disagree. I've just turned the tables on my false God and called it SATAN. I hate it with a passion and wish I could see it and destroy it. I hate the fucking thing.

In other words...People experience this also.

It is not just you, we are here when ya feel ya need to rant.

I don't mind, have a laugh , sounds like ya need one.

And even I can understand why you hate it-

In fact that is one of the most stand out characteristics that I have seen in people with schizophrenia.
