McCain Campaign Tries To Block Ron Paul From Convention Floor
Quote

The Washington Times reported today that the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee have been “negotiating with Rep. Ron Paul to win his support and acquire the names of his sympathizers among the 4,607 delegates and alternates at the Republican National Convention.”

However, when CNN’s John King asked Paul this morning whether such reports were true, Paul laughed. “I wouldn’t put it in those words,” he said. In fact, he said the RNC seemed to be trying to keep him off the convention floor, even though as a congressman, he should be able to get floor passes without a problem.
Paul was barred from speaking at the convention “because the the congressman would not change his position on the war in Iraq, which he opposes.” The Washington Times also reports that Paul “was denied permission to address the Republican Platform Committee last week” after “the McCain forces who controlled the platform proceedings, as well as the Rules Committee and the Credentials Committee, objected.”

The McCain campaign’s stonewalling of Ron Paul may not have the support of his vice presidential pick, Gov. Sarah Palin. In an interview with MTV earlier this year, Palin expressed support for Paul, saying that he was “cool“:

He’s cool. He’s a good guy. He’s a good guy. He’s so independent. He’s independent of like the party machine, I’m like, right on, so am I. The party machinery, on both sides of the party, ya know, Americans are tiring of the incessant partisanship that gets in the way of just doing the right thing for this country.

Paul will at least be welcome at a “counter convention” held in Minneapolis for his supporters, where he is speaking today. Paul said he expected around 18,000 people to attend today’s rally.

Shows how inadequate the RNC feels with mcsame

Personally, where Dr ron Paul needs no notes or earpiece, Mcsame would have a poor showing if he had to go toe to toe with Dr Ron Paul

Mcsame would stumble and sputter and fly off the handle-unable to demonstrate a command over international matters or Financial

He was a privileged youth and was given considerations others beside mcsame were not given-even if they were superior choices-mcsame had CONNECTIONS

Not surprising he does not want Dr Ron Paul around

Integrity is solid in Ron Paul, and in mcsame, songbird mcsame, his credibility is weak with me-his attitude towards women is appalling

His war mantra-'a 100 yrs more of wat' who would of thought that the same guy falling asleep at pres bush inauguration would be that virile to make it another 100 yrs-having trouble visualizing him 100 yrs from now and it is rather unsettling...

Ron Paul supporters’ magical disappearing act

LA Times
Saturday, Sept 6, 2008

Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president, has been said to resemble Gandalf, the magician from the movie version of “The Lord of the Rings.”

Republican officials seemed to make Paul’s supporters magically disappear during Wednesday night’s roll call vote, in which the GOP convention officially nominated John McCain as the party’s presidential candidate.

During the hour-and-a-half voting procedure, convention Secretary Jean Inman recorded each state’s votes. Even though several states cast a portion of their votes for Ron Paul (among them Alaska, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia), none of those votes were repeated aloud by the secretary, and therefore they were not confirmed by the chair.

According to the Oklahoman newspaper, two delegates from Oklahoma also cast their ballots for Paul, but the microphone was cut off before their votes could be recorded.

The result of the roll call vote — before it was made unanimous by acclamation — recorded five votes for Paul, while a news reporter counted at least 15.

“There were several discrepancies,” said Drew Ivers, Paul’s delegate coordinator. “The RNC was roughshod, a little careless. They weren’t as respectful as they could have been. I don’t think that’s very professional, and it’s not a good reflection.

“They had five ladies keeping the score, plus the chairman, so they had six people and still couldn’t get the numbers right.”

The convention did not reject all dissenters to McCain’s nomination. Two votes that the Utah delegation cast for Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, were promptly repeated and recorded in the final tally.
