In the 50's and 60's, when I went to school, there were a lot of really mediocre teachers, and there were also some sadistic bastards that were drawn to teaching because they could direct their sadism towards children with virtually no power. You know, how can you have any pudding, when you don't eat your meat.
Today, those bastards would land in hot water in a hurry, because most parents wouldn't put up with it. This is good.
Today, I find most teachers treat their students with respect, but many of them aren't very proficient at teaching.
Maybe the stress causes them to just get by. Or maybe throwing every special needs kid into public school classrooms, is asking too much of teachers.
Or maybe the average person, no matter what the situation, sucks at what they do. |

I think all teachers should have to undergo a psychological profile test before becoming teachers and then retested about every 2-4 years
it would weed out a lot of psychos and prevent signs of burn out after so many years |

Alot of them are way under paid in the public school system. But honestly I had some great teachers in middle school and high school, and I had some Teachers that where just for the Paycheck and nothing more.
you can usually tell them apart, it's all in what you put into it..sure moderm professors and teachers aren't Plato or the likes, but they can lend a hand if you are willing to work hard and read the material
If you think public school system is bad, wait till you get to a major university, anymore you will be lucky to find a professor who isn't there for 1. a pay check 2. his research(which isnt exactly anything new) 3. if your undergraduate, your on your own..don't expect any real mentoring from your professor. the state of our education system is in trouble imo, but most people don't care anymore..college is just a place to go because "your supposed to and and expected to, to fill new jobs" Education isn't important in higher education anymore |

Most teachers suck because they've no business accumen. They teach because they can't "do". Most teachers are just brainwashers. They do as they're told because they all want to become deans or principals. They suck because they're idiots. |

not all, but you could be right about a portion of them.
I know my History Teacher from 94 still is doing the same courses pretty much even now, and i had a chance to talk with him 12 years later..and he enjoys his work..but admitted that it's ruff in regards to pay..they have had alot of cuts the past 5 years he said. He is an honest person, a great man, and know's how to teach. |

Yes, some, but all my teachers in college were not only published but had a grammy or toured on this album ect. Some of them came there just to share what they knew, but went back into the studio or on tour because it paid more.

Everybody is at times a teacher and at other times a student. Sometimes both at once.
For instance, I learn a lot from this and other websites when my mind is open and at other times I attempt to teach as the result of my experiences.
Often our minds are closed either in the classroom, at home, or even on the internet because we are too busy attempting to think of what we are going to say and are not open to what others are teaching. As quoted from Buddha by AC 809, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears."

Don't expect any real teaching until your last year of college if you have the same professor in those courses, then of course if you are a good student you might get in good with the pompous ass.
sorry Im just a bit mad after spending thousands of dollars on shit, something I could have learned from books or the internet.
And no i Don't work at mcdonalds, i actually sell cars after my 5 years of college...but I bet i make more money then most of the Graduates. |

That is not always true...all my teachers in college were actually incredible. They enjoyed teaching and wanted us to be the best we could be.

Exactly! I studied under perfomers that toured the world, composers that wrote from jingles to movies to the olympics theme..I'd say the teachers knew what they were doing.

I don't know who mentioned something about money "being under payed", but that excuse is getting kinda old. I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and knew full well that the teaching profession was not a place to make big money. All the teachers I had always said they were in it to pass on knowledge and it had nothing to do with money. They did it because the ENJOYED something. When we start talking about money then we get people who are in it solely for a PAYCHECK. All my teachers were GREAT! Now days when I have to go to school for my kids I am totally taken back by how CRAZY it is. They are more worried about school fundraisers and parent donations then teaching. I feel like I'm walking into an extension of the catholic church where the first thing they do is hand you your donation envelopes.
I have issues with my older son, so this year TWO weeks in I get a note from the teacher saying we need to meet. I go to the meeting and its all about how he is the only one in his class who is having issues and that she don't want him to drag down the rest of the class average. I looked at the teacher and asked her if it would be a problem teaching to the point where he was the rest of the class average and she could not comprehend that. I also pay extra for a privet tutor who went to the meeting with me. My tutor is an OLD SCHOOL retired teacher who has been working with my son for two years. When she asked the school teacher what the SPECIFIC issue was the teacher could not articulate. It was kind funny watching my tutor go at the new dumber teacher.
