I don't mind Kevin at all! He is young and full of himself but as he grows older he will figure some of the stuff out!!
All I do is follow NHC and about 15 other sites. I think Kevin at least try's to have his own take !

The center of Ike was forecast to miss greater Miami -- population 2.5 million -- but forecaster Cristina Carrasco of the Miami-based NHC warned against complacency.
"Miami is still on the corner of the (forecast) cone, so we're still watching it very closely," Carrasco told AFP.
"Any little movement to the north could bring it on top of us."
Alot are aware of the models... and Ike "wobbling" doesnt help either...

I think some of us, and thats including me has always had an interest in whats going on in the world, some more political, some more in the sense of how our planet works and whats going on etc...
I still remember being 10 years old and looking up at the sky, loving my planet, seeing Her beauty and Her wrath...
And wanting to be an astronomer when I grew up. Things didnt go that way exactly, but I still like to be informed and "study" in which ever ways I can!
Thank goodness for the internet! We were poor and I touched my first computer at 16 years old, no looking back... hehe
I feel for people though ALOT, my empathy for those suffering from hurricanes, EQs, drought, famine, natural disasters etc.
If I cant help first hand atleast I can "see" and reflect and try to keep an eye on whatever I can.
Its like unpredictable weather, and now in essence unpredictable hurricanes...

I've been watching the various models like a hawk. I think we shouldn't get too worried until Thursday afternoon. By then we should know a lot more than we do now. I will stay if it's a Cat 3 or under. Any more than that, and it would be best to leave. I withstood Alicia, but wouldn't want to go through worse.
I live about 30 miles north of Galveston.

snip
Ike could follow a path similar to Hurricane Gustav through the Gulf of Mexico toward Louisiana and Texas. It may threaten New Orleans, the city swamped by Hurricane Katrina three years ago, and the Gulf energy rigs that account for a quarter of U.S. oil output and 15 percent of natural gas output.

For the poster who wanted to know where Port O'Conner is,
[link to maps.google.com]
[link to www.texasescapes.com]
Port O'Conner has had its share of storms. There was no population when the storms that made Indianola a ghost hit the area, and the same was true for the 1900 storm. But 1919, 1942 and 1945 had storms that damaged the town. Hurricane Carla in 1961, completely leveled downtown Port O'Conner which explains the absence of a town center.
In 1969 the town's population exceeded 1,000 due to employment opportunities at the nearby Matagorda Air Force Base. It later dropped to around 800.
MHO that it would come in between Matogorda & Galveston/Trinity Bay may be right on after all. Carla did the same. And that was a bitch for sure. |

Same here. There wasn't doppler, or sats when I was a kid. On a farm, weather knowledge was as important as knowing how to plant.
My grandfather shoved a tracking map in my hands and made me learn it, barometric readings, when I was about 6. |
