what will the Asian markets do tonight !
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73913
They will go in the crapper. Probably down 400. However, if it works like it did in the past, there probably won't be a big dow drop tomorrow. A few weeks ago, there was a big loss on Thursday then a big loss overnight in the foreign markets. On Friday dow went up quite a bit. I'm betting that it won't be down big, maybe -50 or something. More than likely it will be up...possibly big |

Shorting stocks altogether.
The swings are to fast and to violent for funds to get in and out of fast enough. Thats why were seeing alot of hedge's go belly up for having to unwind long commodity positions.

Now, I do agree that the Dow going down has little effect, as it will most likely recover tomorrow, but the economy is shit right now. Wouldn't quite call it "economic doom", but it isn't real pretty. |

"U.S. corporate profits in the second quarter as captured by
GDP data are 'shockingly bad', Societe Generale says in a cross asset strategy research note, suggesting that an 'equity market meltdown' is 'imminent'.
Although 'we have now reached the point in the cycle where companies reach the end of the road on earnings manipulation and have to admit to their shareholders how bad things really are, sending reported profits diving ... analysts currently see no prospect of a non-financial profits slowdown, let alone recession,' SocGen says.
The recent strengthening of the dollar against the euro <EUR=> has put the U.S. currency on course towards support levels at 1.38 and 1.33. 'This will seriously damage S&P reported profits during 2009,' the French bank says.
It warns investors against going overweight Europe, arguing that European stocks will decline even faster than U.S. equities even if European profits outperform and regardless of the fact that valuations are cheaper in Europe. |

Dude, you are just WRONG on every count...
"A shopped-out, saving-less and debt-burdened US consumer is now stretched like never before, at its tipping point and starting to falter and contract spending. Since we have not seen a fall in consumption – even for a single quarter - for the last 18 years the effects of this sharp retrenchment of US consumption will be severe and cause a protracted and sharp US recession, at least a 18 months recession rather than the 6 months recession predicted by a delusional economic consensus."

OMG you're clueless!
You say the dollar is up, eh? And what do you suppose that will do to American exports, huh? I'll tell you what -- it will make them MORE EXPENSIVE overseas.
So the one bright spot for a lot of American companies - strong overseas sales making up for weak domestic demand - will soon *evaporate*. Then what do we have left?
Let's see you spin that, ass-hat. |

Your a retard. Exports are a much smaller portion of what the US does compared to Imports. Imports are helped by the strengthening dollar, for a overall net positive benefit - a very big benefit.
Please learn what the hell your talking about, dumbass. |
