I used to live next to the Martinsburg ANGB for almost 20 years, yet I still currently live in the area of Martinsburg. Through the 70, 80, and 90's the base occupied C-130's and it's an average base. Besides its normal duties, its local claim to fame, is that this base is the practice landing strip for Air Force One. It is normal to see Air Force touch and go on the base, even a couple times a week. The reason why I am responding to this thread is, because of the amount and size of boulders that was hauled away when the base built the new hangers for the new C-5's around the mid 2000's. The places in which the hangers where placed, should have been shale ground, yet by the size of the boulders, the must went very deep into the earth. I always questioned this and something didn't seemed right about it, even the amount of time the process took to build these large open simple structures. Makes me wonder if there is an underground base/facility of some sorts.
