Getting back to Canada, I just can't adjust to the fact that the entire parliment is dissolved. It's been functional since its inception, so I suppose all is well. I do think there are some strange issues ahead. It does seem odd that Canada, the US, and Mexico have "so called conservative leadership". They all got put into power with the theory that the liberals were destroying their respective countries. I don't know what Harper has done that's so amazing to get boost his parties presence, but there does seem to be some truth (although small) in this North American Union issue. I think it is safe to say that these elections are very important due to the fact that these next "leaders" will be the ones to usher in the NAU or kill it. It's very hard to wrap the thought around. I can't get used to the fact that Republicans aren't independent small government conservatives anymore. Quoting: Spare Tire
They have an acid party and dissolve the Parliament. Then they re-construct it with chunks of ice. It's worked that way for well over a century. We have lots of strange issues here in Canada. We wouldnt be Canadian if our issues werent strange. The majority in Canada are social democrat and liberal, and that's why our government is Conservative. Dont try to understand, that's just the way it is. Harper is just a lucky guy I guess. The election issue is not the NAU but that is what may come as a result. That's the way it works. |

Forgive me that I do not know Canada laws and regulations, but here is the link.

Can the PM dissolve the government? Is that part of your law there? Is it legal to do? It just doesn't seem koshure to say, "I'm dissovling government." How will the government run when it's "dissolved?"

As a Canadian... no, this is not at all legal, I can't believe that CNN is even reporting this as it pretty much ensures that civil war will now break out between Calgary and Vancouver, as was predicted by the 2012 Mayan Prophecies. Please pray for us!

Usually in a multi party system the prime minister can conclude that he can't govern anymore and turn in his dismissal (here in holland around 30% of all governments end that way). |

I like Layton but I know that he can't win.
I hate Harper. He is Bush and USA puppet.

The pot calling the kettle black. .. . the conservatives are not entirely lily white. . what about the 2006 campaign spending irregularities they are being investigated for, what about the Chuck Cadman fiasco when they offered him (as an independent, after he left the conservative government) the sum of $1,000,000 to help defeat the Liberal minority government in 2005, what about the dirty trick played on Obama by Mr. Harper's minions.
I would venture to say that one is no more corrupt than the other. . . just in different ways.

Why is it so difficult for you to debate politics, and not what a particular party is doing at the moment? In Canada we like to think that parties express our politics, or else, not the other way around...
But I will gain rspond to your question. I already mentioned that a majority opposition prevented Harper from doing far worse than he already has done. He didnt get rid of the Health Act, did he? He didnt break up the country, did he? He didnt involve us in Iraq, did he? He hasnt had the chance to involve us in NATO wars against God knows who, did he?
And I've already said that Harper has involved Canada in a useless foreign war in southern Afganistan with over 100 deaths. Didnt I? And Canada has joined the US in allowing the torture of its citizens, hasnt it? And I am sure Gandar has been used for CIA renditions. And I am sure Canada is helping the US claim sovereignty over our Artic lands against the bad Russians, isnt he? And Canada continues to patrol the Gulf doing its part for NATO's military adventurism against Iran, and God knows who, isnt he? And he's scrapped the Libs daycare proposal, hasnt he? And the Prosperity and Security treaty with the US and Mexico? Well we see the results of that in Mexico. When will it come to affect us, I wonder?
What would the Liberals do differently? They dauddle and diddle and delay bad decisions till the last moment. But Harper would go full steam ahead, given the chance.
But you see GOAT my best case scenario for Canada is for a minority Lib govt with NDP/Bloc holding a balance of power. Historically that's when things get done that I consider positive. Hopefully a role back of decades of neglect of so called change, ever since the Mulroney years.
Now instead of asking me about Harper Mr GOATless, why dont you lay your cards on the table and courageously tell us what more do you want Harper to do to us, besides building more jails?
