Arizona is pretty cool...I would say new mexico too...California is getting too over populated

I think you have to sacrifice one for the other. Right now I'm enjoying less restrictive laws along with worse weather but spring and fall are great so that makes up for it.

i'd say north carolina, pennsylvania, new york, vermont, new hampshire, maine. cold winters is some of these, but otherwise very nice people, geography, and relaxed laws. vermont would be my ultimate choice.

The Northeast (NY). Hands down. Rarely a tornado, enough rain to not worry about the Adirondacks burning down. Plenty of drinking water. Part of the geologic Canadian Shield, so EQs are unlikely. Hurricanes won't wipe you out if you live far enough inland. Maybe a leaky roof. Nor would rising oceans, if that happens in my lifetime.

Change of seasons, it's not that cold. October is the most beautiful time of the year. Snow brings people together, makes them less shallow and more cohesive. Spring regenerates us.

The countryside is amazing, and the country folk are friendly. Farms, farms and more farms. Lakes, mourtains, hiking, hunting. Can't forget skiing, we have Whiteface. Fresh local veggies, cheese, wine & beer, meat and other great food. Vermont is next door.

But if NY could just do something about the taxes, we'd be in business. As far as criminal law goes, don't screw up too hard and you should be fine. Just get a local attorney who knows the court room work group.

I've lived in MN, CA (So.), OR and IL. Love NY the best. Except I miss the wicked thunderstorms of MN. Thunder, and lightening, oh yeah...

Yeah my picks would be Arizona, South carolina (business is booming there). That about it. Well ok South or north Carolina.

OREGON.
Weather is ok, rains instead of snows... Laws are pretty relaxed for non violent crimes. People are generally progressive thinking. (don't push their views down your throat)
