Get your butt to a Dr. Strep throat is not something you want to mess around with. Ask for sample antibiotics, they will be free. Also ask for a discount on the amount that is charged for the office call, insurance doesn't pay full price for office calls, so neither should non-insured patients.

ahh! There's gotta be something. Although my husband would be more than willing to give the gargle option a try.

My mom always said she was told by a Dr that apple cider vinegar would kill Strep - and most other germs that cause sore throats too ( get organic Apple cider vinegar if possible)
we just mixed a couple tsps or so with some water in a glass and gargled several times a day.

I'm all about the natural alternatives, but I'm with Mopar on this one. Get thee husband to a doctor. Strep can go downhill fast.

Is there an urgent care type clinic nearby? Ask for a cash discount; a lot of independent clinics are happy to not have to deal with insurance.

I've personally tried the apple cider vinegar gargle - never worked for me when it came to strep.

i agree with mopar here too -- don't wait to so long that you make it even worse, if you decide to try a home remedy..i would defiantly have a time set to go if you aren't feeling better by then.

If you can't get antibiotics chew a garlic clove three times a day. Tastes awful but it contains a natural antibiotic. If you can't chew it, crush it, put it in a cup with some hot water, strain it and gargle with it. Thyme tea, a teaspoonful of thyme, pour over boiling water, allow to stand for a few minutes, add a dash of lemon juice and honey to sweeten. Thyme contains thymol which is good for throats.

Oil of Oregano mixed with Olive oil............worked for me about a month ago. Do a search here for the Oil of Oregano thread by Adonis. This stuff has saved me big $$ on being sick and having to go to the Dr. (no insurance here either)

WHY do you NOT have medical insurance?
Most states have low or free insurance.
Maybe you should consider this minor (you hope) illness as a warning that someone in your family is not making a smart decision about insurance?

Strep is serious stuff but if you are in dire straits, you can get antibiotics at a pet supply store or feed store. I have some in my bug-out bag for TEOTWAWKI emergency, but had to use it last winter for some nasty bronchitis (no insurance) and it worked as well as rx's I've had in the past. If not allergic to Tetracycline, you can take the 250 mg tetracycline antibiotic capsules sold for aquariums. Seriously, I took them 4x a day for 10 days with no side effects and it cured the bronchitis. Please be careful and do your own research. Strep is much more serious than bronchitis.

My niece in England says you can walk into a pharmacy there, tell the pharmacist your symptoms, and get antibiotics without going to a doctor. How very sad we can't do that here.

Rheumatic fever can cause permanent damage to the heart and heart valves. It can be prevented by promptly treating streptococcal infections with antibiotics. It does not occur if all the streptococcus bacteria are killed within the first 10-12 days after infection.

Absolutely!. Try it. It is amazing how fast it heals. Same as A.C. 5040051, thanks to Adonis, we have save big bucks and not only for Strep. It is also great to keep you healthy. I buy it from the guys Adonis recommended. Not expensive and really good.

I suggest you buy good olive oil (cold press) and the ones which come in dark (amber or blue) glass color. Those are the best.

Get a colloidal silver generator (for future use-too late now). Call a health food store see if they have alicin (alicin is a concentrate of garlic-very potent-usually 2 caps 3X a day will knock out most microbes/viruses). Next time use c.s and alicin. You can get alicin on ebay. Get to a Dr. for now is my rec. Untreated strep will lead to other problems-don't wait.

That's rather condescending. From her name, Sarahsota, I assume she lives in Florida. Florida has no state or county assistance for low income people; if you fall thru the cracks and don't qualify for Medicaid you're kicked to the curb and my husband was literally turned away from a hospital ER when his shoulder was dislocated because we didn't have insurance. Private medical insurance is about $500. a month for one person if not offered thru your job. Have a little compassion. It could be you in need sometime.

1. gargle with warm salt water

boil water

when water boils turn off the stove and add salt

when water is warm (not too hot) gargle

DO NOT DRINK THE SALT WATER (it can be fatal)


2. garlic

eat garlic raw or crush it up and put it on bread with olive oil (you mad add tomatoes or avocado for taste)

or: crush garlic and add olive oil and make it into a paste

eat it with wheat crackers


3. vinegar

drink a shot of vinegar with equal amount of extra virgin olive oil

swig it down like a shot of whiskey

What about cipro (sp?). I just talked to someone who used it but it was the kind sold for animals. She said she bought it at the farmers market and it is the same as the cipro for humans.

YES it can, I had it when I was ten was in a wheel chair for three months and in the hospital a lot. I also got a relapse when I was 21. I NEVER want to mess with the strep again. Ever.

I take natural meds for EVERYTHING else on earth but the one thing I never fuck with is strep throat. Tell the doc in a box you don't have health insurance, they often have lower fees for uninsured (My doc does) then take script to wal-mart or the meijers they have 4 dollar scripts for generic antibiotics ect. Do not even fuck with strep.

Oregano oil should also be added. Haven't been sick in years...literally since I went from binge drinking partier to mostly organic/natural foods and supplementing with 2 tbs organic apple cider vinegar, oregano oil, etc...

Taking 12 of these a day for a week knocked it out, and I had strep for three weeks prior to taking it.

Also, gargling with warm water mixed with salt and as much cayenne as you can stand really helps the throat feel better. Eat raw garlic is also beneficial.

garlic also kills bacteria and it is stronger than vinegar and kill kill higher forms of bacteria
