Grand Rapids has ALWAYS had trouble with this, lately they have cleaned up their act. In the 80's there used to be tons of cars with bumper stickers that read "SHIT HAPPENS........when it rains in Grand Rapids". How do I know? I was there. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 504254 United States 09/16/2008 02:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mon, Sep 15, 2008 to del.icio.us The Ottawa County Health Department has been notified by the City of Grand Rapids of a combined sewage overflow consisting of at least 7.5 million gallons. The health department is advising people to avoid body contact with the Grand River until further notice. The water quality of the river becomes poor during sustained rain events like Saturday and Sunday, according to Adam London, the county's environmental health director. During these rainfall events, surface contaminants such as animal waste and pollution are washed into the river. Contaminated sediment in the river can be agitated and suspended in the water. Sewage overflows should also be expected during heavy rainfall events. This advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve and water samples demonstrate acceptable bacterial levels. The health department also advises citizens to use caution when entering any surface water after a heavy rain. The rainfall impairs water quality of all ponds, lakes and streams. Flood conditions also create many physical hazards from strong currents and submerged debris. |

Quoting: WinningjobMichigan is a beautiful State! Maybe you can assist in damning up the river and sending the shit back to Grand Rapids! Promise you a beer if we can accomplish the matter! |
