I live an hour from Galveston.
We just got power on Sunday.
This is what I have seen on drive by's:
MANY still have no power, and the elderly are suffering the heat.
Still no food/mre's or other wise for people who have no power and no refrigeration to keep groceries. POD stayed 3 days!!! Then left.
No more water is being given out.
Beach house on Gilcrest, Gilcrest is gone.
Bodies mostly up through Chambers county as the tide washed them that way with the surge.
Haven't seen ANY bodies in the water/Gulf.
No materials, or generators readily available for repairs. Paid cash, no checks accepted, for a BRAND NEW UST 3500W generator--DOES NOT WORK. "Do not return to store call 1-866-797-2738" NO ANSWER, NO ANSWER MACHINE, NO COMPANY LISTING FOR THE MAKER--UST. (if you can get them please post!)
NO MORE MONEY, no pay check=no food.
No doctors or vets open yet, had to splint a broken leg(animal)myself.
Virus loose, symptoms: headache/eyestrain, nausia, vomitting. Linked to bottled FEMA given water-brand name- "Nestle, Pure Life".
Little house damage in my area, but the Seabrook area etc..Debris stack feet in the air. Boats too!(stacked!)
Trees were the main death toll all over Texas and through Ohio I hear.
Without power for a week everyone became isolated and still do not get the news as we should. Its on, but no word. Still trying to find out what is going on, and what happened immediately after IKE passed over us.
Phone lines are being rotated, power to call in the morning for a few hours, and in the evening again just a few hours.
Get this ALL THE UTILITY companies are asking for their payment! "Or we have to turn you off", and that includes Direct TV. Not one company has discounted the bill for the time outage, which is half a month. They all want full payment which is between $250.00 to $800.00, and thats not including the mortage company! The Mortage co. is talking "foreclosure" for non payment. We are only this one month behind!
Good luck to the rest of you! Quoting: South Texas 508075
There is a huge media cover-up/blackout.
Thank you so much for your live report. Stay safe and as well as you can. This is beyond awful. Wasayo |

So how does a media blackout help Bush's real estate?
The blackout is for something else. Quoting: GraftedPromise U$ofA 508968
You can't fucken read can you?
4200 dead fucks in the ocen and in trees, this is why the media blackout.
Bush owns most of the water front there with his illuminatti friends.
THEYE DON'T WANT THE PEOPLE KNOWING HOW MANY ARE DEAD BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT A RIOT SITUCATION AND NIGGERS AND SPICS COMING UP FROM MEXICO AND STEALING MONEY AND WHAT EVER IS ON THEM.
Beside the point Bush does not want his commericial property devaluated.

TEXAS UNCENSORED User ID: 509367 9/24/2008 3:58 AM | | Re: Hurricane Ike Media Blackout | Quote | As to the exagerated death toll, that's a no way to thousands of deaths. I think there could be hundreds, low hundreds, maybe up to 300. That's just an educated guess based on howm any inexperienced people moved onto the peninsula, and how early the only road out was flooded.
And bush is not a factor. Many thousands of people are here, and they are doing all they can to help speed the recovery. But our infrastructure has been seriously damaged.
While the MSM may have put the story on the back burner, there has been no media blackout here in the Houston/Galveston/Golden Triangle area. It did feel like being cut off from the news at first, because of the lack of power. No way to see what the damage was. OMG, so shocking, hearbreaking to see it when we got power back.
I knew some of those people, some missing.
I loved those beaches. It was 10 minutes away from Winnie.
Hi samson. I'm glad you made it through. This was a rough one. No matter the loss, you are alive, and you can recover. It's just going to take some time.
South Texas, sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. You must be on the east side. Lot's of infrastructure damage, with trees laying on power lines. It just takes time. 7000 elec. workers on the job, 16 hours a day. They are human, and you know they are doing as much as they can as fast as they can.
I do hope you are feeling better soon. The allergy count is way up, people's systems are screwed up because of the stress, not eating cooked meals, normal schedules screwed up. I went through a stomach thing for a few days, but it's better now.
A couple of nights after the storm, I went on my balcony.
conditions were very hazy, not fog. Unusual odor, kind of smoky/light sewer sort of, but not. Nothing was on fire, no sewers backed up. I came in and had a coughing spell.
Don't know what it was, but the air was thick.
All in all, I know some are still without basic services , but it will get better.
The pet thing, hhmmm, don't know. One of mine is being fussy, and one lethargic. I myself, find it to be oddly quiet about. A little uneasy. Don't know why. Maybe just the after effects of being stressed for two weeks watching this thing come in, and then going through it.
Take care, y'all. It's going to get better. |

He was rescued with his wife and two old dogs. They barely survived. They were a breath from being washed out.
Here is a vid with them after being brought in by Park & Wildlife rescue people. They were very lucky to have made it. Another man down the beach from them had to cling to his rafters, with his girlfriend. She was washed out with a wave. He couldn't hold on to her.

Virus loose, symptoms: headache/eyestrain, nausia, vomitting. Linked to bottled FEMA given water-brand name- "Nestle, Pure Life".
I wondered about that. Even inland, where there wasn't standing water and yucky stuff - just wind damage, people are getting sick. The ones I know were in FEMA lines getting free gubmint stuff. We went to Wal-Mart for our water figuring we would leave the FEMA stuff for those who really needed the help - no one at my house got sick. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 426194 |
