In gaffe, Biden says FDR led when market crashed

Biden cites FDR's leadership during 1929 market crash _ but Hoover was in office at the time

Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today's leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt's response to a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'" Barack Obama's running mate recently told the "CBS Evening News."

Except, Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929. There also was no television at the time; TV wasn't introduced to the public until a decade later, at the 1939 World's Fair.

FDR was elected three years later when voters denied Hoover a second term. The Democratic challenger appealed to the "forgotten man" by promising a "new deal" to solve the Depression era.

Democrats usually like to remind the public that a Republican was president during the 1929 stock market crash. During the 2004 presidential election, John Kerry's campaign repeatedly cited Hoover as the last president until George W. Bush to oversee a loss of jobs during his time in office.

Biden was commenting on the stock market crash when he said leaders should explain the current economic crisis and how to solve it to the public.

"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence, is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people ... this is how we can fix this," Biden said.

Biden's spokesman, David Wade, countered: "I'm proud to say that we Democrats aren't experts at Herbert Hoover depression economics like John McCain and his pals. From Franklin Roosevelt to Bill Clinton, we just get elected to clean up the economic mess these Republicans leave behind."

To get Hillary to accept the VP slot now, Obama would have to crawl thru broken glass, naked, dragging his balls over the sharpest shards to prove his sincerity and contriteness as he begs for the privilege of kissing her ass a few thousand time - and then - and ONLY THEN might he broach the subject of the VP slot for

It wouldn't even take all that. After Cheney the VP slop is a very nice prize for someone with political ambitions. and that would allow the clintons to keep some of their promises to the people who donated to bill clintons library.
The way she attacked obama during the primary and not conceeding on the last day, she showed she didnt deserve the position. And it would have made Obama look weak, because it would seem that he was coerced into giving it to her.
Now after her DNC convention speech and stumping for him over the past month and trying her best to get her supporters behind Obama, she has proven herself as a worthy VP.
This is coming from someone who used to like the clintons then, hated them for their antics during the primary. I now like Hillary again and would like her as the VP.

No damage done. I think Biden was a good choice. A no nonsense kinda guy, strait forward and would really be awsome for supporting a Change in goverment administration.
I personally dont know much about his background but like what Ive heard so far from him.
They have the power to create reality

I could explain it better but I would need charts, graphs and an easel.

*Term Coined by Douggie 7 Sept 08, 12 AM. *Apaulin, A term use to describe a ditz that is used for political purposes in order to get votes for there party. But doesnt necessarily mean that they have any qualifications for the job. Oh wait, she does have a degree in journalism.

Please excuse typo's. I type fast and dont give a crap about mistyped words.
