Just don't buy from the Chinese. I've noticed alot of counterfits being sold online from China recently, usually for old silver coins that are neither old and only silver plated. I've noticed they also try the same thing with gold pandas.

Here is the bad news on gold.

Unless you have personal possession of it in large enough; but small divided quantities, then don't buy any.

It is a well kept secret that gold dealers know that gold certificates were over sold years ago on the prospect that future gold mining would cover the outstanding holdings.

However gold production fell markedly in the last few years.

We now have a 'bubble' in worthless gold certificates because if every one called in their right to possess the metal they would discover to their horror 1/3 could not be filled.

When word gets out and this bubble bursts "that" will signal world financial collapse.

A good local coin shop should be able to do that for you. Mine, a small mom & pop, does that regularly. A few months back I was in making a $1K silver purchase, picking out the coins I wanted, and a guy in scubs handed them a $145,000 bank check and walked out with a few rolls of gold eagles. The owner said they get a few of those a month and much larger a couple times a year.

It is not a secret at all. It has been talked about regularly for at least several years. Who are the people who don't know about it yet? With all the publicity this info has received I am wondering why there has been no run to collect on the gold. Very puzzling.

My local coin shop (& I know he's not unique) charges $1.00 over spot for silver eagles, less for bars.

Gold Eagles are $40.00 over spot, Buffalo's are $80.00 over spot. Pamp 1 oz bars are $40.00 over spot.

Of course that is all negotiable on larger transactions.
