OMFG, now I know we are so DOOMED!
Duncan, if you haven't done so yet, order your heirloom seeds. Might I suggest winter squashes and pumpkins, which will keep all winter if stored properly, and carrots, that will (at least in our area) overwinter quite well.
I keep my seeds vacuum packed to make them last longer, too. Quoting: czygynyBack in my pre-Y2K days, I wrote (and published, in several survivalist newsletters) articles about survival gardening, remote/rural homesite electrification, etc. You might be interested in a reprint I put together from an article I wrote back in 1998 called "The Long-Term Survival Bucket" which deals with, among other things, determining what seeds might be best for your bug-out box.
