Hurricane Watch for Eastern New England Later Today
Quote

Tropical Storm Kyle remains just below hurricane strength this morning, with maximum sustained winds at 70mph. A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Bermuda, although Kyle will pass well to its west and only the outer bands will affect the island.

Shear is decreasing over Kyle right now, and the system will remain over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream on Saturday. As a result, Kyle is forecast to become a Hurricane later today.

Current motion has Kyle moving to the northwest at 15 mph...and this motion is expected to become more NNW later today and eventually N by Sunday. The forecast track has shifted Kyle's projected path closer to the NE region, as I forecast yesterday morning, and I believe this trend will continue.

Kyle will likely make landfall as a Cat 1 hurricane in eastern New England or the Canadian Maritime Provinces. Interests in eastern Long Island, lower Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts, coastal Maine, and martime Canada should continue to monitor the progress of Kyle through the weekend.

Hurricane watches will likely be issued later on Saturday.

Hmmmmm. Have to watch that one. Not going to be huge, but worthy of attention.

I know it doesn't reflect it there, but overall the track has shifted to the west some over the last 12 hours or so. West of that model, that is.

That is currently updated, about an hour ago anyways. But they are usually a bit behind in OFFICIALLY shifting tracks one way or another. This is because models tend to jump back and forth over time. They might move west at one advisory, then back east at the next, etc. So even when the data suggests a movement, they will often wait a bit.

I believe the forecast track is currently west of that model right now, not significantly, but enough that it COULD make landfall in NE.
