Emergent: US to buy more doses of anthrax vaccine
Oct 1 (Reuters) - Emergent BioSolutions Inc signed a new multi-year contract, valued at $364 million to $404 million, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to supply additional doses of its anthrax vaccine, sending its shares up as much as 11 percent.
The higher end of the deal value depends on certain conditions related to the expiry date of the vaccine being met.
The new contract, under which Emergent will supply an additional 14.5 million doses of the vaccine BioThrax, is a follow-on to the company's existing $448 million contract with HHS to supply 18.75 million vaccine doses.
First deliveries of BioThrax under the new contract are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2009, the biopharmaceutical company said in a statement.
The company's marketed product, BioThrax, is the only vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the prevention of anthrax infection.
Emergent shares were up 87 cents at $13.96 in morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange. They touched a high of $14.63 earlier in the session.

once you know the truth about vaccinations you will understand that it is never for our own good.
Why are they planning to have a stock of 33 Million doses?
This should be a major red flag for anyone in the know.
My guess? Govt sponsored terrorism aimed at poisoning and weaking the populace. A little anthrax scare followed by lines and lines of sheep getting themselves and their loved ones vaccinated. |

US mail carriers to bring drugs in anthrax attack
WASHINGTON, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Government mail carriers will deliver emergency supplies of antibiotics to people in U.S. cities after an anthrax attack, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials said on Wednesday.
The system has been tested in three large cities -- Seattle, Philadelphia and Boston -- and a pilot program is set to begin soon in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in Minnesota.
HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said there is no evidence of any imminent attack on the United States involving anthrax spores, but said it is important for authorities to have in place a way to get drugs to treat the bacterial disease in case such an attack occurs.
The U.S. Postal Service carriers who would bring the antibiotics from door to door after an attack would be volunteers who will have advance supplies of antibiotics to protect themselves and their families, officials said.
Attacks involving anthrax-laced letters in the United States in 2001 killed five people, including two U.S. Postal Service workers from a facility in Washington. Thousands were given antibiotics to prevent disease.

Connection between Emergent Biosolutions and BioPort
The corporate name has changed from Bioport to emergent biosolutions, they recieved a $3.8 million grant for anthrax vaccine research in 2006.

After the attacks of September 11th. President Bush placed BioPort's North Lansing laboratory under protection, invoking the national interest. Interestingly enough, the Italian magazine Il Manifesto reported, in its October issue, that this happened at the same time that the FBI also placed the El Hibri’s at the top of their list of suspects for sending anthrax spores through the mail system.

In September of 1998 a group of unidentified investors, organized by Fuad El-Hibri, acquired the assets of the Michigan Biologic Products Institute (a state agency) after a public bidding process. The for profit company created was named Bioport.
El Hibri, who became Chairman and CEO of the company, is an international wheeler-dealer who specializes in acquisitions. He has been involved in setting up companies around the world in the biomedical and telecommunications fields. El Hibri has managed projects for the high-powered law firm of Booze-Allen & Hamilton in Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. He also set up large telecommunication operations in Russia and Poland.
Prior to his association with the law firm he was manager for Citigroup of their Mergers and Acquisitions from New York and Operations and Credit in Saudi Arabia.
Another member of the four-man Board of Directors for Bioport is Admiral William J. Crowe, Jr., former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and former chairman of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Crowe, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), is also chairman of the Senior Advisory Board for Global Options which has five other CFR members including R. James Woolsey former CIA director. Global Options is a multinational company that provides consulting on security, intelligence and propaganda to a variety of private and governmental entities.
Bioport was obviously created in anticipation of large-scale military operations by U.S. servicemen facing possible exposure to biological agents including anthrax.
Bioport's only customer is the Department of Defense (DOD) which has an exclusive contract forbidding sale of the vaccine to anyone except the DOD.

BioPort has been consistently rumored to have received substantial funding from the Carlyle Group, which, of course, was founded in part by George Bush I. On the board of directors sits former UK Prime Minister (and rightwinger) John Major, as well as William Crowe, Jr, former Chariman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Reagan. The CEO is an Arab named Fuad El-Hibri. Although El-Hibri prefers to be described as "of Lebanese descent", his strongest ties seem to be to Saudi Arabia, including business ties to the Bin Laden family.
The FDA did not want to OK BioPort for anthrax production due to the companies astoundingly shoddy record. But Donald Rumsfeld helped force the FDA, in 2002, to officially "approve" the vaccine for inhalation use, even though the research was totally inadequate and the drug was, in effect, an "experimental treatment" for this purpose. Even though a firestorm of questions and criticism had erupted around the vaccine after Gulf War I that had never been resolved. But under the Bush administration, approval was easy. Sitting on the committee that approved the drug were several people who had worked for, or were currently receiving funding from, pharmaceutical companies that make vaccines.

Two Rival Biotech Companies Receive Approval to Develop Anthrax Vaccines
September 29th 2008 -- Emergent BioSolutions of Rockville and PharmAthene of Annapolis, MD received separate federal development contracts to develop an improved form of the anthrax vaccine.
PharmAthene of Annapolis was awarded with a multi-year contract by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a part of the National Institutes of Health.
“PharmAthene is strategically building a leading franchise in anthrax countermeasures — a potentially billion dollar market,” said David Wright, CEO of PharmAthene, in a statement. The company would receive an initial $13.2 million for clinical trials and testing of the vaccine.
Emergent BioSolutions of Rockville, PharmAthene’s rival, said it has also received a federal development contract to build new anthrax vaccine. The company is the government’s single supplier of anthrax vaccine under a $448 million contract to stockpile 18.75 million doses of BioThrax.
Both Emergent and PharmAthene compete to give the Strategic National Stockpile the 25 million doses of anthrax vaccine.
An improved version of the vaccine is supposed to stimulate immunity faster, with fewer side effects. Human and animal vaccines are based on live-attenuated strains, anthrax spores, or cell-free vaccines prepared from bacterial supernatants or protein subunits, usually adsorbed onto aluminum salts, such as aluminium hydroxide.
Anthrax occurs to humans when they are exposed to infected animals, hides, or tissue from infected animals.
Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed (AVA, trade name BioThrax), which is produced by BioPort Corporation Lansing, Michigan, is the only type of anthrax vaccine licensed by the FDA in the United States.

Garlic and Other Natural Anti-Anthrax Weapons
Colleagues Have Circulated the Following Natural Preventives and Treatments for Anthrax and other Bio/Chemical Threats
I am passing this on to those of you I know to be diet conscious, as well as those of you in areas that are affected by Anthrax scares. I send it in the spirit of good health.
NATURAL RESCUE REMEDIES (for anthrax, nerve gas, etc.)
Since anthrax is the most feared toxin it will be addressed first. The Garlic Information Center in Britain indicates that deadly anthrax is most susceptible to garlic. Garlic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that even blocks toxin production by germs. [Journal Nutrition, March 2001]
Before vaccines were developed against polio, garlic was used successfully as a prophylactic. In one test garlic was found to be a more potent antibiotic than penicillin, ampicillin, doxycycline, streptomycin and cephalexin, some of the very same antibiotic drugs used in the treatment of anthrax. Garlic was found to be effective against nine strains of E.coli, Staph and other bugs. [Fitoterapia, Volume 5, 1984]
Freshly cut cloves of garlic or garlic powder may be beneficial. The antibiotic activity of one milligram of allicin, the active ingredient in garlic, equals 15 units of penicillin. [Koch and Lawson, Garlic: The Science and Therapeutic Application, 2nd edition, Williams & Wilkins, Baltimore 1996]
Garlic capsules that certify their allicin content are preferred and may provide 5-10 milligrams of allicin, which is equivalent to 75-150 units of penicillin. The anthrax bacterium's toxicity emanates from its ability to kill macrophage cells which are part of the immune system. Studies have shown that sulfur-bearing antioxidants (alpha lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine, taurine) and vitamin C, which elevate levels of glutathione, a natural antioxidant within the body, counters the toxicity produced by anthrax. [Molecular Medicine, November 1994; Immunopharmacology, January 2000; Applied Environmental Microbiology, May 1979]
The above sulfur compounds can be obtained from health food stores and taken in doses ranging from 100-500 mg.
Vitamin C should be the buffered alkaline form (mineral ascorbates) ratherthan the acidic form (ascorbic acid) and should be combined with bioflavonoids which prolong vitamin C's action in the blood circulation. The powdered form of vitamin C is recommended to achieve optimal dosing. A tablespoon of vitamin C powder (about 10,000 mgs) can be added to juice. Good products are Twinlab's Super Ascorbate C powder and Alacer's powdered vitamin C.
A great sulfur Is MSM. I have used it for taking out swelling and pain almost instantly from everything from oral surgery to bee stings, spider bites (it seems to neutralize the venom) to poison oak/ivy, to chicken pox, herpes cold sores, and in lotion for burns, skin conditions. It enhances vitamins and escorts toxins out of the body. I took it in small amounts at first, like a pinch of salt, and now take one pill or capsule a day. The reason for this is that if it starts taking too much of the toxins out at a time it can make your heart beat fast or possibly have a reaction which some people call allergic. Melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone available at most health food stores, has been shown to help prevent lethal toxins from anthrax exposure. [Cell Biology Toxicology, Volume 16, 2000]. It could be taken at bedtime in doses ranging from 5-20 mg. Melatonin boosts glutathione levels during sleep.
Of additional interest, one of the methods by which mustard gas works is its ability to bring about cell death by depleting cell levels of glutathione. [Medicine Journal, April 9, 2001] So glutathione is also an antidote for mustard gas poisoning.
Virtually all bacteria, viruses and fungi depend upon iron as a growth factor. [Iron & Your Health, T.F. Emery, CRC Press, 1991] Iron-chelating (removing) drugs and antibiotics (Adriamycin, Vancomycin, others) are effective against pathogens. The plague (Yersinia pestis), botulism, smallpox and anthrax could all be potentially treated with non-prescription metal-binding chelators. For example, iron removal retards the growth of the plague. [Medical Hypotheses, January 1998] The biological activity of the botulinum toxin depends upon iron, and metal chelators may be beneficial [Infection Immunology, October 1989, Toxicon, July, 1997].
Phytic acid (IP6), derived as an extract from rice bran, is the most potent natural iron chelator and has strong antibiotic and antioxidant action. [Free Radical Biology Medicine, Volume 8, 1990; Journal Biological Chemistry, August 25, 1987] IP6 has been found to have similar iron-chelating properties as desferrioxamine, a drug commonly used to kill germs, tumor cells or to remove undesirable minerals from the body. [Biochemistry Journal, September 15, 199! 3] IP6 rice bran extract (2000-4000 mg) should be taken in between meals with filtered or bottled water only (no juice).
The antibacterial, antiseptic action of plant oils has been described in recent medical literature and may be helpful in fighting biological toxins. [Journal Applied Microbiology, Volume 88, 2000] A potent natural antibiotic, more powerful than many prescription antibiotics, is oil of oregano. One study showed that oregano completely inhibited the growth of 25 germs such as Staphylococcus aureas, Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Oregano powder from whole leaf oregano is available as OregamaxTM capsules (North American Herb & Spice Co.). A spectacular development in natural antibiotic therapy is the manufacture of oregano powder from 100% pure oregano oil, producing one of the most potent antibiotics known. It has recently become available under the trade name OregacinTM (North American Herb & Spice Co.). It costs about $1 per pill, but this is a far cry from the $16 per pill for Vancomycin, known as most potent prescription antibiotic.
Oregano oil can also kill toenail fungus and allows nails to grow back in normally and release that awful foot smell and yellow thick skin.

Huper zine A, a derivative of Chinese club moss, has been suggested as a pre-treatment against nerve gases. [Annals Pharmacology France, January 2001] The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research conducted studies which revealed that Huperzine A protects against nerve gas poisoning in a superior manner to physostigmine, a long-standing anti-nerve toxin.drug. [Defense Technical Information Center Review, Volume 2, December 1996] Huperzine A is available as a food supplement at most health food stores. Suggested dosage is 150 mcg per day. Pretreatment is advised prior to nerve gas exposure.
Summary
The threat of biological warfare is real and concern over preparedness of the civilian population and medical professionals is growing. There is virtually no practical way that vaccines, antibiotics or other treatment can be delivered to a frightened populace in a timely manner during a crisis. The current strategy of having an unprotected citizenry travel to physicians' offices or hospitals to receive prophylactic care or treatment is unfeasible.
The public must be armed with preventive or therapeutic agents in their vehicles, homes and the workplace. Natural antibiotics and antitoxins are well documented in the medical literature, but overlooked by health authorities. These antidotes are readily available for the public to acquire and place in an emergency biological response kit.

Summary
The threat of biological warfare is real and concern over preparedness of the civilian population and medical professionals is growing. There is virtually no practical way that vaccines, antibiotics or other treatment can be delivered to a frightened populace in a timely manner during a crisis. Thank you, I appreciate alternative solutions to needles.
Some essential oils are effective (in theory).
Oregano, tea tree, rosewood, thyme and several others act as antimicrobials, antivirals, antibacterials.
Also poultice or plaster of green French clay, althugh any sterilized clay would work in an emergency. |

i have a question about iron.. and chelation... removal...
the above natural cure article mentions ridding the body of iron, and states that it allows bacteria and virus to promote themselves in an iron rich environment...
but i thought iron was good...
they fortify cereal with it
it is in tuna
and they check it at my WIC appointments...
to make sure i have enough iron...

Yeah, they've got me on iron supplements.
I think it might be related to the number of red blood cells vs. white blood cells. If the balance is off, the white cells are unable to increase when the body gets infected. Maybe some types of iron inhibit the production of white cells in order to increase the red cell level..
just guessing, though. |
