How much is a cord of wood where you live?
I just moved to northern NM.

My neighbor introduced me to her "dealer" and the guy said $300/cord.

Seems high to me.

I'm from MN. A cord of wood should be

4'x4'x8' NO LESS.

Make sure it's maple, oak or birch. Do not buy pine except to make kindling.

The ideal wood here is tamarack and/or red fir. If you want to be able to 'bank' the fire for the night.

$160/cord MAKE SURE IT MEASURES OUT

Any other soft pine is running $140-145/cord

Alder makes good kindling, too. Burns a lot cleaner than pine or fir.

Use oak for the most heat ... slower burning and puts out intense heat.

I am in Durango, Colorado.

Price per cord depends on type of wood.

Pine or Pinon Pine is apx. $250.00/cord.

Oak if you can find it is $300.00+.

I went to the sawmill in Mancos, Colorado, and they have already split Aspen. I loaded it myself and got 5 cords for about $150.00.

It depends how much wood is available in your area. Last year it cost me $180/cord in WI. Cut, dried and delivered.

Hey, I was just up that way about a month ago. Nice town and beautiful country from the Utah border to there.

I'll look into self load because i think $300/cord is too high.

UK person.... a cord is a measurement used for wood used for heating. The stack of wood measures 4 foot x 4 foot x 8 feet (A cord).

We ordered a log truck to save money. Last year a cord ran$100-$120 depending on the type of wood.

Log truck equalled 13-15 cords for $1000. We saved a bundle. See if any are available where you are. Call every place you can think of. Wood shops, mills, evrybody.

Without a bunch of airholes and the wood should be split before it is stacked and measured. Anyone trying to deliver full log size rounds will be shorting you because of the space in between the pieces.

$275 two cord minimum. I am going to wait until late fall and see if they drop the price once their business slows down. That and I am going to offer some friends a free woods clean up and pick through the seasoned logs.

No you didn't. MN has more varieties of hardwood than just about anywhere. WI might be the place that has more.

You don't want to be burning anything else other than Oak, Maple or Birch.

My father made friends with a furniture maker, they give him countless 55g drums full of hardwood scraps. They've been doing that for about 15years and the relationship is so good they deliver it to his house.

You might want to try something similar.

somebody mentioned burning something other than pine for kindling... in MN there is either hardwood or pine trees, that's why I said pine. BUT pine is ONLY for starting fires unless you're desperate. There is some alder wood available. Ash makes good kindling but don't be silly and buy a whole cord of it.

OP, don't confuse the prices, you're most likely getting hardwood whereas most others are getting conifer wood of some kind. You'll burn through 3-5 same size confir logs vs one log of oak or maple.

Maple is the best if you can get it. Then comes oak - white oak is harder than red oak and red oak is harder than pin oak. Next is birch. Then Black walnut.

In the fall, we used to borrow a pick up truck from friends, rent a chainsaw, buy a permit, then head up into the hills to cut and gather our own wood amid the beautiful fall colors.

Nothing like the smell of fresh cut wood and physical work to clear out your soul...

Even after taking our friends out to dinner to thank them for the usage of the pickup truck...the cost of the rented chainsaw, and the permit, it was still cheaper than purchasing a cord.

AND the size of the cord. 4'x4'x8' and nothing else.
