And oh yeah, free speech only works if you use it.
Don't be afraid, or you've already lost.

Well said, I can't believe people are living in a place where they feel they need to censor themselves, yet they aren't having the same thoughts as you...
It only gets worse folks.
The result is the same in the end, your silence is only buying you time, and damning your children to slavery and oppression.
If the deer population is allowed to run free with no checks and balances mankind will one day exists only to serve a few privileged deer.

This is why it's EXTRAORDINARILY important to teach the value (and public service!) of hunting to children.

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.
ok then... I will exercise my right....as long as were talking about deer.
A 50 cal would be your best bet for long range (1 mile) shooting. It has the power and velocity to carry that distance reliably.
Keep in mind though....wind will play havoc on shots longer than 300 yards or so.
You must have wind markers set up along the flight path of the bullet to correctly guage the bullets movement midflight.
Otherwise you'll just spook the deer and the important ones will hide in thick BRUSH.
So reasonably, your best best is a 30/6 or a 270. Both are excellent rifles with a variety of ammos to get the job done....night vision scope would be sweet too....

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.
Any bolt action in the .308 or bigger. Rule of thumb: spend the same money on the scope you paid for the rifle. Quality softpoint ammo. Train, train, train. You owe it to the game.

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.
there is no more truly free speech sir.... careful what you say...
I dont think anyone will discuss this with you because of that.
What? We can't discuss hunting?
I mean, if I wanted to bag a deer from, say, up-to and including 1 mile, what would I use?

rofl....unless you live in the rocky mountains, a shot at serious game over 300 yds is a joke...and, at that range, you really need to be an excellent shot....shooting at somethin a mile away is the realm of artillery, not shoulder fired weapons....if you dont know anything about rifles, odds are you have no business contemplating "sniping".... it's the skill of the shooter, not the rifle, that gets the job done.... soviet snipers of ww2 used scoped mosin-nagants, which by many standards are really sub-standard rifles, yet they accomplished some fantastic results....some basics for you....front locking bolt action....varmint, or target weight barrel....synthetic, or glass bedded in wood stock.... free floated barrel....a stock that actually fits your build.... a military scope, or an extremely robust hunting scope(no target models, too delicate)....your scope must be permanently mounted(no quick detachable mounts).... and lots of ammo, because you're going to have to do alot of shooting just to get competent, let alone become expert enough to realise the potential of your rifle.... once you can call your shots within say a 1/4 inch at 200 yds, come back and ill give you some recommendations on all the aspects of long range hole punching......

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.
an old western style 30/30 will be a good gun to start with.
Its downright deadly to 100 yards and a little futher, but it is loud, as are many sniper rifles....
And without a suppresor of sorts it will give your position away immediately. THAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM.
BUT...a suppressor reduces accuracy by some bit because the bullet gets pulled in every which way as it travels through the suppresor leaving it with a somewhat random flight path.
But like one person said the scope is definitely important.
by the way, if you decide on the 30/30, get the HORNADY leveraction bullets. They have a small plastic tip that greatly improves the flight characteristics of the 30/30 round vastly improving accuracy. Regular 30/30 bullets are a little stub nosed leaving some qualities to be desired.

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.
Geez, deer hunters are lame. You want to blow up a poor innocent little deer from a mile away?? If you had any balls, you'd go deer hunting with just a loin cloth and an obsidian knife. Track him, jump him, slice him. Deer aren't hard to find, and they're pretty dumb.

>>Right... drop a deer with an obsidian knife... even ancient people didn't do that... they exhausted the deer with the long chase... not stalked and stabbed them.
Not hard to find? Dumb?
You obviously have never hunted a deer. They are VERY smart prey animals... Not easy to bring down... not easy to find.. not easy to get the jump on...
If you hit a deer with your car, chances are it is going to jump up and run away and your car will need major repairs... you know NOTHING about deer.
When I was young, I had a pet deer... was captured as a fawn and someone had it tied up... and it escaped. I fed it lettuce and it became comfortable with me. It LOVED to eat cigarettes. We would play 'tag' around the woodpiles.
Don't talk about things you know NOTHING about.

In the video ET posted, notice how lame the mighty hunter is. He has a bow (which is a step in the right direction). The first thing he does is throw the bow down. Why not use it? If he can't get some distance from the deer and get a shot, maybe he could poke the deer in the eye with it? Or something like that? Then he holds up his arms and falls on the ground! Just where the deer wanted him. Now he can't run, and the deer can stand over him and stomp him. Lame!
Does he have a knife on him? He should have gotten in close to the deer, under its neck, between its legs, and whaled the knife into the deer's neck, eyes, face. Killed the motherfucker, or at least changed its mind about things.

How do you know what "ancient" people did? You don't. Don't talk about stuff you don't know anything about. "The long chase"? Yeah right. You have to chase deer ... for miles, huh?

I can find a deer any and every time I go out in the woods. You obviously know NOTHING about deer. Perhaps you're one of those city-boy hunters. Yes, it's hard for them to find a deer. (Because they are loud, stupid, half-drunk, and smell bad.) Don't talk about things you know NOTHING about.
