You are a fool. He could have done something with it, instead of just drop it, then fall on the ground.

Lame reply. But I guess that's what the guy was thinking. "I might hurt myself if I defend myself. Better just fall down so the deer can stomp me."

Well, that explains how you got so stupid. Again, how do you know what ancient people did? You don't. But you think they chased deer for miles??

easy killer....

this thread was meant to discuss rifles....not the hunting/stalking habits of premodern man.

Quite bickering like a bunch of little bitches and just let it go....

jeezus...thats why america is in this shape to begin with, because we let petty differences get between the larger goal.

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.Quote

there are many species of deer..all with different habits and flavors..If treated respectfully, they give of themselves to sustain us...eating our oats is their way of saying.."here we are..if you need us..."
Now to seriousness: 30-30 is good for brush jumping and stands..accurate at 150 yards..open sight...good machine...easily available and ammo easy to obtain
: 270 with decent scope...good to 1/2 mile with proper elevation compensation....Many modals available, and ammo is usually on sale
:308 with top quality scope..Excellent choice...good to 3/4 mile reliable...easily available...ammo usually on sale..Standard NATO round...can use "captured" ammo if the target happens to be carrying (Know a few elk that like cal 308 LOL)
: 35 Whelen with top quality scope...up to 1 mile accuracy...this is an "elephant gun".. can be a bit difficult to find...stockpile ammo (was a custom load until a few years ago) now commercially available..Actually this behemoth is my choice for long rang accuracy..bit spendy....

Not hard to find? Dumb?

You obviously have never hunted a deer. They are VERY smart prey animals... Not easy to bring down... not easy to find.. not easy to get the jump on...

If you hit a deer with your car, chances are it is going to jump up and run away and your car will need major repairs... you know NOTHING about deer.
 Quoting: Sinanju 515707

Sin, aren't you somewhere in NC? I've never hunted deer and don't claim to know anything about them, but I went to visit a girl in the Raleigh area one time and those fuckers were everywhere. She actually had a dent in the side of her car where a deer had jumped into into it while she was driving. That happened twice! She lived a little outside of town. We got out of the car one night when it was very dark and there was one standing just off her porch. I didn't even know it was there until it made some kind of snorting sound and scared the hell out of me! She said it was common for that area, but I don't know how vast "that area" was. Is that common around there?

Yeah. The deer spilled that guy's blood. Because he didn't do much of anything to defend himself.

Re: Let's Get Serious: I Think It's Time To Talk SNIPER RIFLES.Quote

A .50 Barrett round goes cleanly thru a deer at 970 yards, leaving a clean hole. The energy is somewhat diminished, but still had enough power to go thru a 10' ash tree on the other side of the deer.

Hunting from "a mile away," saves money. You don't need camo, an ATV, the calls, the boots, etc. You simply get out of the car, put out your shooters pad, snap the bipod up and pick out dinner.

>>Very! If driving in my area at night, I recommend going slower than the speed limit and running your brights. Contrary to popular belief, if you use your car horn in a repetitive beep beep beep fashion.... deer will turn and run from it. If you hold it down, they may stand still or even run right at it.

Indeed. When I lived in Colorado, the deer would snooze under the trees 40 yards from our shooting range all summer.
Come hunting season, you were hard-pressed to get within 200 yards of them carrying a rifle.

Let's get back on track here...

If a deer, which resides on my land because I allow it to stay (you might say I "elected" to have the deer stay), but it is fucking up my shit by eating up my crops (you might call those "resources"), don't I have the right to remove it from my property?

And to be sure, we're CERTAINLY not talking about any endangered species of deer here...There are vast numbers of resource destroying/gobbling deer on the property...

We have two trains of thought about that.

One is to plant extra and let the deer/Elk fatten up on it then shoot for meat latter.

The other is use a carbide cannon to scare them off then shoot for meat latter.

But if you need meat now I say go for it.
