Why won't my new computer recognize my SD card??? WTF!!

It's not in the MY COMPUTER. I checked everything...it never even made the 'sound' that it would make on my other program when it recognizes a flash drive or other memory device?? The computer came with VISTA and i'm still getting used to the damn thing. ughhh

Go get one of the 8 in 1 card reading USB thingies from Radio Shack. I think it set me back $18 two years ago.

check and see if the card reader is enabled in "device manager".....might be shut down.....

At the time I bought it I was looking for a cord to go between my camera and the computer... couldn't find it, my father in law was over looking at me like "you idiot, get a card reader!"

Yea, it does. Works in my camera and works in my SD slot on my work laptop which is a gateway with XP? Could it be something with that fuckin VISTA??

though one can usually find it in "control panel"....might carry over to vista...lol

For what it's worth, I've got a Gateway with Vista Ultimate and have few problems. But I don't use the card reader. Turn off user account control for ease of operation.

If your computer is brand new and you're having trouble finding something on it, phone the store you bought it from and ask them what to do. If you're new to Vista, you'll have to get over the hesitation you might feel towards asking for help anywhere you can get it. Be a real phone pest! Call the store, call the manufacturer - but if it's an OEM, Microsoft won't do anything for you so never mind them; all your problems are their fault anyway. How long ago did you buy this computer? How long a 'buyer's remorse' do you get from your store - other than the three days legally allowed you anywhere in the U.S? Most merchants are going to help as much as they can because they don't want you bringing that machine back in a huff demanding a refund.

It should be under warranty. Call Gateway about it or better yet, get on their website and get in a chat session with a technician. I used their chat, it works well and is free.

my computer recognizes an sd card that i have, but refuses to recognize the new sd card i just bought online. why the hell is that? realllly frustrating

XP requires a patch to recognize the newer SD cards (above 4gig).

If you are using XP, check the MS site for the patch.
