great heirloom seed company

Just checked their web site out and it is fascinating. I am just a beginner gardener, bought some land a couple of years ago and this year had my first small garden. I love heirloom varieties and will probably place and order as well. Thanks for the info.

You'll also probably like J. L. Hudson, Seedsman. They have an online catalog now. Almost all open pollinated seed, many rare seed including native and central and south american rarities.

I get a lot of seed from Territorial Seed Co. because they offer a great selection of short-season varieties. Also if you're into tomatoes and/or peppers you have to check out The Tomato Seed Company and Totally Tomatoes, terrific selection!

Pinetree seeds has an interesting catalogue and offers lots of good books, many of them at discount prices. My other standby is Nichols Garden Nursery, but will definitely check out the above suggestions. Thanks, never to early to think about next year !

Walgreen's used to sell seeds cheap. Now I can't find them at all in my local store. Hmmmm...

I've ordered from Baker Creek/rareseeds.com for years, outstanding selection, outstanding seed quality.

But I was delighted this summer to find out one of the coolest things of all about Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Their owner is into alternative politics! The owner of Baker Creek seeds had a booth at the 'Rally For the Republic' last month, featuring Ron Paul, Jesse Ventura, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, conspiracy theorists, all kinds of freaks. And Baker Creek was there. Giving away free seed packs to the motley masses no less!

Alot of these heirloom seed companies have a conscience, but not many of them are going to travel hundreds of miles to set up a booth at some strange alternative political convention. In fact, none of them will, except Baker Creek!

I got to talk to the owner for a bit. Good guy. Young entreprenuer, looked to be in his late 20's-early 30's. He brought his wife and young baby with him to the rally.

Just the social conciousness and political correctness of Baker Creek, should make you consider them first when buying from a heirloom seed company. I know their appearance at the 'Rally For the Republic' made me feel that way. When it all hits the fan, and it's game on, Baker Creek is gonna be on the right side.

I live close to them. They're really good people. I love shopping at their place. They've got a little 'ol timey store and have gatherings on Sundays during the spring and summer.
