Look at it this way. This impact was not publicized or mentioned in the MSM. Imagine the islamic world waking up to a wiped out Mecca. They won't buy the asteroid "excuse" cause we found out about it very very late and the impact will happen while they sleep. They would probably presume Mecca was attacked/nuked.
