Small Asteroid Predicted to Cause Brilliant Fireball over Northern Sudan
From: Don Yeomans NASA/JPL Near-Earth Object Program Office
October 6, 2008
A very small, few-meter sized asteroid, designated 2008 TC3, was found Monday morning by the Catalina Sky Survey from their observatory near Tucson Arizona. Preliminary orbital computations by the Minor Planet Center suggested an atmospheric entry of this object within a day of discovery. JPL confirmed that an atmospheric impact will very likely occur during early
morning twilight over northern Sudan, north-eastern Africa, at 2:46 UT Tuesday morning. The fireball, which could be brilliant, will travel west to east (from azimuth = 281 degrees) at a
relative atmospheric impact velocity of 12.8 km/s and arrive at a very low angle (19 degrees) to the local horizon. It is very unlikely that any sizable fragments will survive passage through the Earth's atmosphere.
Objects of this size would be expected to enter the Earth's atmosphere every few months on average but this is the first time such an event has been predicted ahead of time.

That's the most useful information I've seen so far.
So... 19 degrees to the local horizon at a velocity of 12km/s equates to approx. 200-250 miles of travel (west-to-east) before what is left - if any - impacts the earth's surface. That would seemingly limit any EMP to an area ranging from N Central - NE Africa. |

Small Asteroid 2008 TC3 to hit Earth Tonight
On the morning of 06 October 2008, astronomer R. Kowalsky of Mount Lemmon Survey detected a small object (absolute magnitude H=30.4) now designated 2008 TC3
According to NeoDys and Jpl Neo experts, the impact with the Earth atmosfere is almost certain and it should be at 0246 UTC of 07 October 2008. Fortunately this object is only a small chunk of rock few meters in size and should not survive passage through the atmosphere. In case some fragments should reach the ground, the impact zone has been located in the northern Sudan.
No damage is expected
The entry in the atmosphere should be visible over northern Africa and possibly even over southern Europe.
Almost certainly 2008 TC3 will be the first impacting object discovered before entry into the Earth's atmosphere.

How can a satellite as large as a car pose threat of impact yet a solid piece of matter can't? Possibly velocity but it is still an interesting thought.
also...
What are the % accuracy of known size, speed, angle, ect?
could they be wrong by 30 meters? 300 meters? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 515977 10/6/2008 8:12 PM | | Re: An asteroid (ASTEROID 2008 TC3) is going to hit Earth TONIGHT! | Quote | (CNN) -- A meteor, or shooting star, is usually the size of a pebble, or even a grain of sand, burning up in the atmosphere.
An asteroid like the meteor shown here should be visible Monday night over northeastern Africa.
An asteroid like the meteor shown here should be visible Monday night over northeastern Africa.
On Monday night, an asteroid that may be the size of a car will likely burn up in the atmosphere over northeastern Africa, according to the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
But the planet is not in peril. The asteroid, spotted by an Arizona observatory only Monday afternoon, will burn up in the upper atmosphere at about 10:46 p.m. ET (2:46 a.m. GMT).
It will not pose a threat to aircraft or people on the ground, but it may put on a show.
Called an asteroid while in space, astronomers refer to it as a meteor once it interacts with the atmosphere and begins to heat and glow. While the meteor will burn up over Egypt and the Sudan, traveling from the northeast to the southwest, it could be visible from much of southern Europe, northeastern Africa, and the Middle East, according to Christine Pulliam of the Harvard center.

She said the meteor could appear, cloud-cover permitting, as bright as a full moon, and may produce a loud boom or popping noise. Italy's University of Pisa calculated the odds are between 99.8 percent and 100 percent that the object, traveling at 28,800 mph, will encounter the Earth's atmosphere.
"We want to stress that this object is not a threat," said Dr. Timothy Spahr, director of the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center. "We're excited since this is the first time we have issued a prediction that an object will enter Earth's atmosphere."
"We're eager for observations from astronomers near the asteroid's approach path," said Gareth Williams of the Minor Planet Center. "We really hope that someone will manage to photograph it."
The Minor Planet Center, at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, is a worldwide clearinghouse for asteroid and comet observations. It collects and disseminates observations and calculates orbits. |

good point. So what is it? A meteorite or larger then 10 meters across?
Little f*^k ups like this can spill the beans early.
Asteroids vary greatly in size, from a diameter of 975 kilometres for 1 Ceres and over 500 kilometres for 2 Pallas and 4 Vesta down to rocks just tens of metres across.
[ link to en.wikipedia.org]
I doubt this thing is in the kilometers because it would have raised more alarm bells.
But it is at least 10 meters across because that's what makes it an asteroid. Quoting: 89446

seriously, they lied to us and to protect what little secret they know?
to call it an asteroid means it must be 10 meters or more. But they say its a few meters, that would make it a meteorite, being less then 10 meters.
We can out right see there is manipulation of the scientific facts. Lets say it 23 meters (an asteroid by size definition) and some high up brass says, make it 2-3 meters for public. Forgeting to call it a meteorite. Slip up!
So why release the data if they feel the need to hide something? |

HAARP et al have been earmarked for success. They are worried about the new aquarian energy washing over everything in the planet. The "message" has been intentionally corrupted by HAARP and co to try to influence dna changes.
CERN has apparently been a failure.
They have charged up the magnetesphere so much that when this asteroid makes impact with the atmosphere we will get a comet holmesesque event where it will engulf the planet. The sky will be red with red metalic hail falling from the skies. It could even possibly stop the sun getting through for several days.
It is a good idea to store water now because it is possible it may be poisoned by radiation.
Keep well GLPers.
And take this inside info as legit until it is 100% certain of being not. |
