Look at it this way. This impact was not publicized or mentioned in the MSM. Imagine the islamic world waking up to a wiped out Mecca. They won't buy the asteroid "excuse" cause we found out about it very very late and the impact will happen while they sleep. They would probably presume Mecca was attacked/nuked. Worst case scenario - WAR. Medium case scenario - major psychological trauma for the muslims. |

Atmosphere reaction and asteroid disintegration can only be calculated if the angle of entry and rock composition is known. For an asteroid that was found 1 day ago, that seems to be quite too much information for the usual.
