How come some sources (with presumably the same data) are claiming this is a small rock, about two meters in diameter, and others are claiming, from it's brightness, that is is likely something less than five meters...
Those are VERY different things.
I know they don't want to panic anyone, but really, say it with me now:

Really interesting that today would be the first time ever that they KNOW a rock is going to hit, for certain...

Check this old January 2008 story:
An asteroid that's likely as big as several football fields will fly past Earth next week.
It is estimated to be somewhere between 500 feet (150 meters) to 2,000 feet (610 meters) in diameter.
